. .B KETBALL After getting oft' to a slow start early in the season, the junior varsity quickly realized their mistakes and Came back after Christmas vacation a much improved team. A quintet with a combination of players like Mauricewalker, Dennie Howell, Alvin jenkins, Mike Suraci, and Bill Weneta could not lose for long. All in all, it was a good year for the junior Lions. They had to face a gruelling schedule averaging three to four games a week against the toughest teams in the area. The brand of basketball played by the -l.V. was a typical example of the high type of sportsmanship shown by every athletic team representing Archbishop Carroll High School. Half-hidden in the foreground is Reginald Johnson who, with Suraci, was a key man in the Little Lions' offense. The Little Lions are front row: Bill Weneta, John Leeke, manager, and Pat Byrne, and in the back row: John Dimond, Mike Rice, Mike Suraci, Dennis Griltin, Dennis Howell, Reginald Johnson, and Fr. Ketter, coach. Judging by this year's record, the J.V.'s have great potential and will make excellent varsity material.

There then followed an in and out season with the Lions hot one day and cold the next. Win or lose, the hustle and spirit of the team deserve the highest Commendation. Frank Campana, Buddy Dennie, and Pat Green, mainstays of the pitching staff, never turned in a poor performance. Joe Kammerer, behind the plate was easily the outstanding schoolboy catcher in the Wash- ington area. Jim Byrne's power at the plate paced. the Carroll hitting attack. Coach Bob Dwyer, pitcher Buddy Dennie, and catcher Joe Kammerer, talk strategy before the first inning. !
