The knowledge of a foreign tongue is a building block for a true friendship with people from other parts of the world. To speak a language fluently takes time and hard work with the combined efforts of the students and the teachers. A modern world with modern ideas demands a modern method of teaching and learning foreign languages. Listening and speak- ing exercises, culture courses, and grammar are techniques employed by Mrs. Valdez and Sr. Philip. PAULA VALDEZ Head of the Foreign Language Department and teacher of Span- ish I, II, and III, and French II and III. Mrs. Valdez obtained her B. A. in Spanish and French at Loyola University. She is the moderator of the French and Spanish Clubs, and she enjoys bowling, swimming, and water- skiing .
