P.E. Aragon's physical education depart- ments have been blessed by three recent additions to their teaching staff. The first is Nick Delurgio, a recent graduate from Stanford. Along with his teaching duties Mr. Delurgio is also the coach of the soccer team. New teachers for the girls this year are Leta Bakke, a graduate of UC Berkeleyg and Wilhemia Tribble, a graduate of the University of New York City. Both the girls and boys PE depart- rnents try to make physical educa- tion a succession of skillsg with the boys going from C's to A's and with the girls starting off with two years of basic skills in all sports and then progressing to selected sports in the last two years. More than twice as many different courses are now offered in this subject area than were open to the early Aragon students. The Social Studies department has Worked with team teaching, lecture, and small group work since almost the beginning at Aragon. Many of the innova- tions employed at Aragon when flexible scheduling was intro- duced have heen practiced in the teaching of Geography, History, and Government at this school for ten years. This is in addition to the always excellent Fall and Spring concerts. Art department courses have expanded this year to include such things as filmaking, environ- mental sculpture, macrorne, and new pottery techniques. A system where teachers through- out the district make slides and tapes demon- strating art techniques for use as supplementary teaching aids is also being developed.
