I WAS SO HARD TO PLEASE. -SIMON 84 GARFUNKEL Memories of Past Presidents . . . When Aragon was only a growing skeleton of steel and concrete, one of my friends jokingly bet me Iwould not run for Student Body President. Itook up the bet without giving it any serious thought. But the closer elections came, the more seriously Itook the joke. I began thinking that if I really wanted to be president, and if I worked hard enough, I had as much chance as anyone. Iworked, and the joke changed into reality. I had become Aragon's first Student Body President. I enjoyed the job so much that when Iwas a senior, I again wanted to be Aragon's student leader. I now realized that I had a talent for public speaking, that I had a way of conveying sincerity, and hon- esty to others, and that I thoroughly enjoyed the competition of elections. The competition was stiff. My victory was not easy, but my greatest desire was successful, to be the Student Body President of Aragon's first graduating class. Looking back I can see that high school changed me. The friendly joke was a stepping stone. High school was an awakening period. I discovered desires and talents that I had not realized I possessed. I knew that if I wanted to be something different, or wanted to change my personality I could. I knew I could be who and what I wanted to be. Now time has changed me. I feel myself becoming older. It's odd, because to me I'm still that crazy guy who drives to school in the old Model 'A' dump truck. Ihave grown older because I have had to accept responsibility. Responsibility, that nasty word that people nag and threaten you with, does not just happen. Responsibilities are accrued with desires. Marriage has brought responsibility, so have children, the service, my job, and most important of all happiness. Because of responsibilities we are forced to grow up. We have to adapt to new situations. We are constantly changing. Aragon was my first introduction to responsibilities. I have been accumulating them ever since. I have graduated and I have changed. I have reached some of my goals, and others are still far off in the haze of the future. Aragon was my beginning. Running for president kindled my desire to be the best in whatever I do. I am constantly trying to develop my abilities. I'm grateful to Aragon for the opportunities it offered me. I am still on my way to my future, growing, expanding, changing, and always striving to improve. Thank you for the challenge, Aragon, and good luck to you, your students, and your dedicated faculty. --Clifford R. Glidden

You asked for memories from high school. Unfortunately, memories are sometimes trite and sometimes hard to enjoy for anyone except those persons who experienced them. You asked how Aragon helped me. I would say that I might not have made it through college and might not have advanced as far in the military and civilian business Worlds if I didn't have the experience of having the teachers of Aragon for my high school education. The teachers there can relate to students a wealth of experience far beyond the minimum curric- ulum requirements. If there were one thing that I would say to high school students today, it would be that they should talk to their teachers. Teachers have a wealth of information to give to those who have the interest. - -John F. Coltart john Coltart Bryan King I I Mr. Rittenour's timeless Good morning, I your morning announcements . . . Yes, my memories of Aragon are vivid and my experiences were, on the whole, pleasurable. But I cannot honestly impute great I significance to my four years at the Don-dom. I think that our personalities are largely de- termined by our earlier years and our world views by our later ones. Aragon was to me as a pleasant pause in a journey: one that offered some trees to scale and some to fall from--a last resting place before We move out to find-or make-our place in the World.
