AL., An unusual event took place on February 5 of this year. Aragon had its tenth 1 W un.-and birthday and birthday cake was served to all students and faculty. I suppose for those teachers who were on the original faculty at Aragon, there were indeed some nostalgic memories, but unfortunately, some 900 students who represented its first ninth and tenth grade classes were not here to participate in its celebra- tion. What happens in the aging process of a school? Traditionally, its student body gets larger, its faculty grows in number, gets older and retires, the building is expanded as needed, the school's colors and mascot become well known, and its graduating classes begin to have anniversary parties. But something significant has happened at Aragon. There is more mutaul respect and friendly relationship between students and teachers. Students are involved in constructive activities in the school and the community. Teachers are develop- ing new curriculum, much of it to be used in small group seminars where the teachers play a secondary role and students talk so that they may learn from each other. They are encouraged to help the faculty make decisions as to the impor- tance of time, study materials, and what is important to know. Learning, par- ticipation in activities, and acceptance of responsibility are goals sought by stu- dents at Aragon. Our aging at times has been painful, but always productive in our attempt to prepare for a future that at times seems impossible to comprehend. --Kenneth G. Allen Principal O for a living man to lead! That will not babble when We bleedg O for the silent doer of the deed! One that is happy in his height, And one that in a nation's night Hath solitary certitude of light. -Phillips
