MEDEA was not an easy play for an untrained
college group to xnasterg it was certainly not an easy
play for them to discharge--with just the right inten-
sity of emotion--at an equally untrained audience,
yet all who saw it said it was a great success. Tech-
nically, the play held problems too. The lighting
effects called for rapid and subtle changes, and the
set was a challenge to ingenuity.
IZ,
The musical effects added much to the mood of
the play, and the womenls costumes enhanced the
pictorial beauty of the production.
There was a long list of Aquinas students work-
ing on this year's production whom we cannot
list here. For their generous and cheerful coopera-
tion we are most grateful: of their efficient and in-
telligent service to their college. we are most proud.
WOMENS LE GUE
The Women's League, composed of all women students attending Aquinas College

cheerleaders and women's tennis team. In the last few years, the Women's League
has sponsored a Spring Tea for the mutual enjoymentofthe women faculty members
and the students.
This year's officers include President, Mary Busch, Vice-President, Mary Ellen
McDonald, Secretary, Kathy Duba and Treasurer, Mary DePauw.

MENS
GYM
CLASS
92
This year the mens' gym class
took on a new look as Mr. Pete
Bishop, Director, introduced amore
balanced program. In addition to
the usual activities of badminton,
table tennis, and basketball were
added calisthenics, football, and
road work.
These varied types of activities
provide for a more complete pro-
gram of physical education, and
have resulted in greater student in-
terest.

Finally, on Saturday, March 4, the

1960 - 1961 RECORD:
WON 13
LOST 6

This year Aquinas College enjoyed one of its most
successful seasons. Considering the calibre of the teams
it faced, the basketball team came through in fine fashion.
Coach Ray Null brought some new faces to the campus
this year including Tom Williamson, jim Kanary and Ray
Bauer. The teamwork of the players became evident as
players hit the double figures of the scoring columnin
game after game, and the victories far outnumbered the
losses.
High points of the season occurred at the first game with
Northern Michigan, a nationally ranked college, when the
Tomies lost by only one point, and the great battle which
the team showed at the Calvin game before losing in the
final minutes.
Congratulations to the coach and team for a fine and
thrilling season.

Once again the Aquinas Herald
provided the students with an
account of campus events. Working
to beat deadlines, the staff gave
it all they had, and never was a
month lacking a paper. Perhaps
it is the atmosphere of the Tower,
for the staff always comes through
with an interesting paper through-
out the year.

well as an outlet for activity promotion. Presented in an informal manner, the lVeekf1f,
now in its second year, activates student opinion, promotes club and social functions,
and provides facts about Current and future campus events.
The Weelzfy fulfills a special need for relaxed student expression and fills the interim
between the monthly Herald Editions, with points of interest for thought and comment.

Volume XIII of The Tfzomisl, fI96Ijowes its success tif anyj to a small but dedicated
staff. This 'iselectw staff took the maiority ofthe pictures, developed and primed them,
laid out the pages. typed the copy, and then chased the Greyhound Bus down the street
to get the pages to the printers on time.
Special thanks must go to those students who helped in this work. Miss Gertrude
M. Horgan, advisor, l-cept the staff "constantly,' informed ofthe deadlines and without
her supervision The Tfzomisf would still he in the planning stage.

Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta TRIAL BY JURY
has been selected by the Music Department ofAquinas
College for presentation sometime early this May. Di-
rector Edward Owens reports that roles have been
cast and rehersals show great promise, indicating
that this presentation should be a credit to the Music
Department. In cooperation with Mr. Owens Sister
Mary de Chantal, O.P. is working with the students
on staging.
At the time this edition of the THOIVHST went to
press the production was still in its early stages as the
pictures on this page indicate. We are anticipating
seeing the operetta with all its embellishments.
