Members of the Varsity Club discuss plans for purchasing
The Aquinas Varsity Club endeavors to arouse school enthusiasm through
the spirit the members put into their respective sports, basketball, baseball,
golf, and tennis. The publicity derived from these sports interests many pros-
pective athletes from high schools and other colleges. This year the club
emphasized publicity through pep rallies, newspaper writeups and the sched-
uling of games with larger and more prominent colleges.
In addition to this purpose of stimulating interest in Aquinas, the club as-
sisted in sustaining the morale of the athletes through the purchase of new
equipment, the enlargement of the cheerleading section and in the arrange-
ment of a spring banquet for the presentation of varsity letters.
Officers for the school year, 1956-1957 were president, Ron Russell: vice
president, Larry Moriarty: treasurer, Art Lee, and secretary, Mary Ellen Sloan.

Looking over the practice slalom course
Down the slopes into the "Pines" is the new motto of one of the most ener-
getic groups on our campus. Although the Aquinas College Ski Club has
been formally organized for only two years, it has gone far in accomplishing
its purpose of initiating and encouraging active participation in the social
and athletic winter sport of skiing.
President, Ralph Hauenstein, assisted by vice president, Mary Pat Miller:
secretary, Gretchen Schwarz: and treasurer, Iames Haviland, have promoted
active participation by arranging several weekend trips, inter-club competi-
tion, and competition in the Michigan Intercollegiate Ski meet at Boyne
Mountain. In the latter event Mary Pat Miller, representing Aquinas in the
final women's combined slalom and downhill race, won second place.
In combination with its principal activity, the ski club has also sponsored
a banquet, hayride, circle, and canoe trip.
An achievement the Ski Club is proud of this year is an entire season with
an inactive "Broken Bone Club."
