P' 1 ,' ...H- fffet like been . . . Taking advantage of an early spring, twenty-five potential golf- ers reported to the golf coach, Father Grady, in early March. 'Two up and coming freshmen, Andy Zag and Phil Mara, emerged victori- ous in the preliminary T2-hole tryout over the rolling Twin Rivers' layout. These two linksmen, used to fill in around last year's return- ing lettermen, captain Howard Bruml-eve and District Caddy champ. Leo Korpieski, were among the starting four. The Terriers faced South in the opening fray. The Bulldogs afforded little more than a warmup, as they went down to a 16-U RN, I.-, In G,.,,,l,,. 0.15. ,.,,,, ph. nm drubbing. Korpieski was medalist with an 831. With Columbus Hmmm nr ""' 'ew' "l' "wh" Academy furnishing the second round of competition, the Irish foursome again swung out and garnered an easy 15-1 victory. In the next three matches Aquinas mastered Linden McKinley 16-O, Central 1512-12 and West 1112--152. ln the match with defending champ North the Terriers went to the last hole before gaining an 8-8 tie. To date the Green and Gold golfers have amassed 82 points, out of a possible 96, to 14 for their opponets. Captain Brumleve and Andy Zag lead in individual points with 2112 each out of a possible 24. Korpieski is far out in front in low medal score with an 84 evarage. To date too, the team has won five, tied one and lost none. East, St. Charles, Bexley, Grandview and Arlington are still to be met. From the present showing the team is conceded an even chance to bring home to Aquinas its first golf championship. To provide material for the future, a team was entered in the "B" league. Coached by Father Small, it con- sists of Paul Lancia, Tom Poticino, Jack Blanchard and John Karsko. Thus far, the "B" team is doing very well, sharing a first place tie with Weste1'ville and Worthington. They have won five and lost one. Arlington is yet to be met. Hack Row: 'rlllll Poliseno.
