APPLETOA HIGH SCHOOL We went over to the Electric Rallw ay depot and chucked our baggage and were left about two hours to stroll around and get acquamted ln general We met the St Norbert s team there and w ere told that they were gomg to St ohn s too to play the heaxywelght team 'Nlost of the fellows went over to the Ar cade to shoot pool and mvestrgate the place w here It was poss ble to buy everv thmg from a pm to an automoblle We w ere all deeply lmpressed by the mav mtude The car for Delaheld left about one thrrty so we all went back to the sta tron The street cars were perhaps the cause of more comment than anything thus far They were coupled together m groups of three and four and were so long that when we rounded a corner and looked out of the window It was pos sible to see the last one rf the vrew was not shut off by a burldrng When we pa sed through the western section of the crty we were almost asphyxlated be cau e of the smoke of the coal which w as burmng ln that part of the cnty near the power plants We all felt quite sck By the trme we had reached Delafleld lt had begun to ram We were met it the statlon by the cadets but wrthout the usual transportation facnlltres We had a pleasant walk about a mule down the road to the academy Wlmlle clressmg for the game Tappert was thrust unto the lrmehght agaln because he had left the greater part of hs football costume at Appleton Thls wasnt very unu ual for something along this order happened at regular mtervals We went out to the held and walked around as much as posslble 1n mches of mud It were rn great plrrts for the bxg splurge at Nlrlwaukee that nlght and the next day Vve lm d the very best supper at the Vl tors restaurant about a block down the road For lack of greater and a more actrve pastime Woehler went to the barber shop for a shave The re t of us went over to the general store and talked over the game and spat on the stove Really enjoyable tme while It lasted but I wouldnt want to be a cadet Buchanan had come out wrth a car and some of us went back to Mllwaukee with htm After we had dnven rn the general dlrectron of lVl1lwaukee for several hours we fmally stopped a man m a small town and a ked hrm how far we were from Milwaukee and whrch way to go He told us we were twenty mrles on the other slde and told us to go back al mo t the same way we had come So Nlrlwaukee rsnt so very brg after all and t s easlly passed by When we got back we registered at the Metropolrtan Hotel for we were planning to tay over untxl Sunday The rest of the fellows had all planned to go to the C-ayety and then take the eleven thirty tram home It was a secret ambrtlon of most of them to be able to boast of the fact that they had been to 'Vlllwaukee and had gone to the Cayety Woehler and Koepke had secured box seats at the co t of two dollars aprece We went to the 'Vlrller with Coach and aw ome excellent vaudevllle ln fact rt was so good that Coach couldnt go without seelng the last act and mlssed the tram or rather thought he would But vt yu t happened that the clocks were turned back and the taxr coach took was a useless expense The other thrngs that took place on the remalder of the trxp were farrly normal except that during the night Tappert was alrno t the cause of a race not He managed to get out of Milwaukee on the early morning tram wrthout any material danger It surely was some trrp 'V 91 v I A v y X v , Y - J , v . x .
