game, the library club meetings, and finally the Senior
Trip are all the things of the past. But, they are never to
be forgotten by those who learned, grew, and enjoyed
their Senior year. At times seemingly insurmountable
odds afflicted this class. They cried, asked "Why the
surge onward?"

Confusion
The first two weeks of
school were confusing for the
students as they were not only
getting new teachers, meet-
mg new friends, and having
schedule changes, they were
also busy getting ready for
the first football game. How-
ever, their confusion turned
to happiness after the Bull-
dogs defeated Jonesville with
a score of 12-to O.
The band practiced hard to be ready for the first football game.

Thrill of
Victory
All Juniors have experi-
enced the thrill of victory
and the agony of defeat,
and the class of '81 is no
exception. Magazine sales
and Spirit Week were the
victories, while SAT and
falling grades dampened
spirits. But once again the
Juniors' spirits climbed
when the end of magazine
sales came. Mrs. Hunter,
Mrs. Brooks, and Mrs.

The Sophomore class is composed of 42

The classes provide guidance and close

Eigh th Graders
Show Spirit
Eighth graders always enter their
first year of high school a little con-
fused, and this year's class was no dif-
ferent. The first few days were full of
confusion as they tried to find their
lockers, their next class, or the way to
the lunchroom. This class was differ'
ent from the previous classes because
they wanted everyone to know who
they were. At pep rallies they let every-
one know that they were backing the
Bulldogs and won the Spirit Stick on
several different occasions.
These eighth graders did not seem
confused very long. Soon they could
be seen enjoying the activities availa-
ble to them. Although they could not
join many clubs this year, they could
participate in Junior Varsity sports
and various spirit activities.

Most accomplishments
described as great have been a
result of hard dedicated ,work by
those who have previously set
goals and held to them. The

the result of years of accom-

who consider the goal worth the

Duties
Perform ed
Books cannot shelve them-
selves nor can they mend them-
selves. It took an efficient staff of
students working under the
direction of Head Librarian,
Mary Barker, to keep the library
accessible to students.
Duties performed by the stu-

and mending books, taking care
of the record player table and
decorating during holidays. The
pupils also shelved books.

Will Be
Missed!
A - Frank "Sarge" Reed fought hard to make the 1979-80 football sea-

' son at our school a very impressive one. He put in long hours, stayed
here at school when he could have been home resting, he gave up so
much to make the Bulldogs a team to be "reckoned" with.
At the end ofthe season, Coach sent in his resignation and shock, as
well as sadness was felt throughout our student body. His reason for
Coach Reed showsafilmro his Science9 leaving was a simple one - his family and the long drive from Gate
dass' City had taken its toll. "Coach Sarge Reed, you will be missed."

Although the game will be

The senior class motto was "As for the future, your task is not to foresee, but to ena-
ble it."
The Top Honor Students were: Seated: Anita Hylton, Marie Rose, Nedra Fig, Cheryl Clen-
denon. Standing: Rhonda Willis, Debbie Stidham, Sammy Green, Louis Head, Mark Cor-
nett, Gary Brooks, Robin Clisso, and Patsy Thacker.
We Wonder
lt's graduation and it's unbelievable that we're here. Our hearts are
filled with excitement and anxiety. As we walk up to receive our diplo-
mas we wonder . . . where do we go from here? We've always had the
security of the school routine and its activities, surrounded by our
friends with their familiar ways. Now we'll all be going in different direc-
tions, and we wonder how long it will be before the memories that
meant so much start to fade.
After twelve years of this we should be ready to move on, but we feel
like we are leaving a part of us behind. Maybe that's good though
because we have really changed in the years that we've been here, and
we must now recognize that the only ceiling life has is the one we give
it. We are now surrounded by infinite possibilities for growth and
achievement.

Good-Byes Are
Said
Miss Azlene Stout has been
the efficient, helpful guidance
counselor who has worked with
both the faculty and students to
aid them in the solution of their
problems. She has explained the
scholastic requirements, helped
with schedules, worked for
scholarships, and has done all in
her power to improve the outlook
of the Appalachia High School
students toward their futures.
Her retirement will leave a
vacancy at Appalachia High
School which will be extremely
hard to fill.
May God be with a gracious
lady in her retirement.

Changes Are
Made
At the beginning of the
year, editor Jamie Nidiffer
along with co-editor Robin
Clisso, decided to make
several changes in the book's
format.
ln this system everyone had
to do his own job. And this,
XA
sometimes, was hard to do.
But the realization that the
entire book would be only as
good as the individual sec-
tions comprising it, kept us
working.
