The president, Van Hunter, assisted by Mr. Kerr, the advisor, has the tremendous task of improving relations between the students and the school. Problems are encountered and workable solutions are derived through democratic procedure. Some ofthe activities of this past year were: the establishment of an honorary study hall for bus students, conducting morning devotions over the public address system, and as an aid to the financing of the May Crowning, the selling of candy. The study of a charter system for organizations was com- menced this year with the hope that this system may be initiated in the 57-58 school term. The most important of these is the solicitation of ads from local businessmen. Money gained in this way is used to buy sweaters or jacket awards for the members who will graduate during the current term. Each year the club gives an honorary award to some non- member whom they feel has contributed most to their welfare. This year the award was given to Mrs. Mentch for the out- standing work she has done. G' QOie,B. Mohney' C, Hall' A. This was formerly the String Ensemble but this year it com- bined with some ot the band instruments to form an orchestra. Since this orchestra is still in the infant stage, at the present time, it is not as prominent a part ot the music department as it will be in the future. However some members of this group have participated in the county and district festivals during this school year. This organization gives students a chance to explore all types of music, from jazz to classical masterpieces. Also an oppor- tunity to try their talents on the stringed instruments is made available to all students interested. fi T' .,, ll 9 ..,-fi "ff il fi , if xl gf- 5 ii-- ,1- -1 i e. . '-T . M .J .. . Eight boys who this year were part of our gridiron team next year will either be alumni or ineligible for further Competition.
