Anton Bulldogs' season started off with a bang! There were about twenty-four boys
starred workout on Aug. 15. As the days went by and workouts got a little stiffer, several
fell by the wayside. The Bulldogs worked long, hard hours to get into condition for their
first game with Whiteface. Although we were the underdogs by 20 points, the final score
was Anton 7 and Whiteface O This put us off to a fighting start. At each workout the
boys seemed more enthusiastic, and their spirits mounted. Gur next two games were victor
ious ones. Each man was learning to fill his position better. The boys were anxious to
learn and as a whole very co-operative, which improved their team work. Spring Lake de-
feated us in score, but not in playing or spirit. Enthusiasm still ran high. Defeat only
seemed to make the team more determined in their effort toward success. It was not until
the school went on a half day schedule for cotton pulling that interest began to fall off.
The boys kept playing hard and doing their best, but the fact that we could not stay in
shape with the amount of practice we got Caused many injuries that we were not able to
overcome till the season was over. Even this handicap never seemed to quench the spirit
that was in the team, for we played good football against the highest contenders for the
district championship.
Every man on the 1949 Bulldog line-up was an outstanding player .and true sport in my
estimation, for each gave everything he had in every game. The sportsmanship of the play-
ers was not only complimented by our local fans, but by all the teams and coaches of the
teams that we played. This in itself spells a victorious season! Anton placed three boys
on the District teams which speaks well for our players. Only five boys will be lost off
this team for next season's play.
LETS MAKE IT AVICTORIOUS ONE!

Texas' Magic Valley Makes!
Bid For Summer Tourists
New competition seems to be in
the offing for Florida and Cali-
fornia with the recent announce-
ment of the big Texas resort
project in the Magic Valley.
Now of course few people in
the world have heard of the
Magic Valley, but within it's
phenomenal borders lies one of
the most amazing stories that has
come out of this or any other
country.
Down in the southern tip of
Texas where the silvery' Rio
Grande slides sleepily into the
warm waters of the Gulf of Mexi-
co is a land of tall palms trees
and everlasting sunshine.
This stretch of valley, which is
60 miles long and 20 miles wide,
msn fahiilnnsgly
W 9A!9nI9X9 '-1191! CISISII-'HHACIC
cal waters offer an ideal play-
ground for sailing and motorboat
enthusiasts. The deep-sea fishing
is the nation's finest and during
the winter it seems as though all
of the ducks on the North Ameri- 1
can Continent take refuge in the'
lagoons and lakes of the Magici
Valley. . 1
Old Mexico, with its colorfuli
shops, thrilling bullfights and gay I
night clubs. is just across the Riof
Grande, only a few minutes drive i
--or walk. A land of manana,i
where the Old Century meets the '
New. The Magic Valley is truly
this country's only genuine Latin-
American resort land. ,
