Highlights of the senior class activities
this year were the Christmas formal on
December Z3 and the winning of the first
prize in the Homecoming parade in the fall.
Eleven seniors, plus the stage crew,
worked together to produce the class play,
"The Curious Savage," which was presented
April 13 and 14.
Sheryl Mair, Cathy Lense, and Don
Cardiff represented the class in the Student
Council.
As the Sequoia went to press, plans
were being made for a class trip in the
spring.
ADVISORS: Mr. Chiappetta, Mr. Cahill, Mr. Grady.

Student Uouncil
The Student Council sponsors many
school social activities such as Home-
coming, the Thanksgiving and Christmas
programs, and student assemblies and
duties as well as serving as the student
body government.
At Christmastime the Student Coun-
cil decided to give S20 to each of four
charitable organizations and to give
canned gxoods for other worthy groups.
One of t e largest money-making pro-
jects was the selling of popcorn at the
games. The members also sold Christ-
mas cards, school pennants, and pins to
raise funds for the various activities
provided for all the students.
The general purpose of this body is
to co-ordinate more closely the working
relationships of the students and their
activities, their faculty relationships,
and their social life. The twenty-nine
council members are the representatives
of the classes, the presidents of all
state organizations, and the delegates
to Boys and Girls' State.

A new club, the Antioch Sequoit Radio Club, was founded in A. T. H. S. this year.
The aim of the club was for every one of its members to become a "ham" or amateur
radio operator. lt also provided for those who were interested a means for learning
the principles of radio.
The officers were Steve Aschenbrenner, president, and Carolyn Stoffle, secretary
pro tem. Mr. Chenette sponsored the club.
Pep Club
A second new club was formed in November of 1955. Its purpose was to promote
a better, more enthusiastic school spirit, a spirit undaunted by defeat and full of hope
for the future.
The officers who were elected by the mem-bers were as follows: president, Donald
Wertzg vice-president, Robert Wertzg secretary, Sue Kopackg treasurer, Mary For-
brichg chief rooters, Yvonne Bigner and Betsy Frazierg game announcer, Jim Stonisg
sponsor, Mr. Heath.
This year the Pep Club selected their hats and letters, sold porn-poms, and
advertized the games. The cheers were written up for the benefit of those who didn't
know them. The club posted the "welcome" signs at our home games and promoted
the idea of the play-by-play announcer, which went into successful effect.

These boys, who wear an "A"

membership into this club by
earning a major letter in football,

enior lllass Play
The Curious Savage was presented by the Senior Class under the direction of
Misgioward. The play centered around Mrs. Savage, a rich woman, who was
committed by her children to "The Cloisters, " a place for mental patients. Her
children hoped to gain control in this way of the Savage fortune.
With the inmates of "The Cloisters" the play came alive with comedy and also
with the seriousness of life in a mental institution.

1955 Prom
A picturesque underwater scene meets the eye as we enter through beautifully draped
fish nets for the prom, Aqua Nocturne. Dancers twirl past caverns with treasures,
anchors and colorful sea creatures. The bandstand and punch table are giant clams, and
an enormous octupus stretches overhead to make us feel as if we are dancing to Johnny
Kaye's orchestra on the bottom of the sea.
A spotlight illumines the climax of the evening, the presentation of the queen and her
court. A few more dances and everyone departs with a treasure chest of memories of a
wonderful prom.

A. T. ll. . Band
This year the A, T. H. S. music department grew to a total of one hundred and thirty
students. Various new musical groups were formed with the addition of a prep band, a
madrical group, and several trios, quartets, and sextets from both the vocal and instru-
mental line.
Five programs were presented to the public with a fall band concert, a winter concert
by the choruses, a Christmas concert with both vocal and instrumental groups performing
together, a spring band concert, and a spring vocal recital.
On October 8 the Antioch band attended the First Annual Band Day at Northwestern
University. There they marched, along with 4, OOO other band members, on the field dur-
ing the half-time of the Minnesota-Northwestern football game and enjoyed the game as
guests of the university. The musicians attended the district music contest at Gurnee on
April 7.

Cheerleader
At last year's spring election
the student body re-elected
Jackie Martin, Carole Hansen
and Sue Wolfinbarger to the
cheerleading squad for the fourth
year and moved Janet Rogers
up from the junior-varsity squad.
Rosalie Morris and Donna Reidel
were newcomers to the group.
The girls spent many hours
after school practicing their
cheers and planning the many
pep assemblies for the year. The
pep-boosters mixed business and
pleasure when they attended a
cheerleaders' clinic at Illinois
State Normal University in the
fall.
