Bement Fighter Squadron 831 was a reserve unit operating from New York's Floyd Bennett Field. Originally assigned the old F 4U-4 uCorsair prop-driven fighters, they received new Navy F9F ':Panther Jets shortly before recall to active duty early in 1951. - Following operational training at NAS Alameda and NAS El Centro, California, the squadron reported aboard the An tietam with her sister squadron, VF-837, and other squad rons of Air Group 15. Flying the Panthers, VF-831 had a primary mission to protect the Antietam from enemy aerial attacks. As a sec- ondary mission, the squadron participated in strikes against railroads, trains, rolling stock and enemy installations in North Korea. FRONT ROW, left to right: H. E. Willson, J. R. Flying F917 Hfpanther Jetsfi specially equipped for photo Work, VC-61 flew 195 photo sorties over North Korea.
