Antie tam Battle Flag Presentation The historical battle colors carried by troops of the North and South at the Civil War battle of Antietam Creek, in 1862, were presented to the USS ANTIETAM during a flight deck ceremony on April ll. The presentation took place while the USSANTIETAM was berthed at Bayonne, N. J. The battle streamers were presented by the 165th Infantry Regiment of New York's Fighting 69th Di- vision andthe l67th Infantry Regiment ofthe Old 4th Alabama Division . The colors are to remain in the custody of the ANTIETAM for the duration of active service. lt was fitting that while the ANTIETAM was trying out new methods to protect our present and future heritage, she received historic momentos from those who had successfully done so in the past.
