The instruments played range from clarinets, trombones, baritones, trumpets and cox-nets, to drums, tubas, saxophones and flutes. I-Ieartily backed by an active Band Boosters Association, the band furnished music for all football and basketball games: and also took part in the Tri- Band Festival at jackson, and the Miami Valley Band Festival at West Milton. Programs were sold at the high school basketball games with all proceeds going to the band treasury. In addition to providing music whenever needed during the year, the band was engaged in several financial projects, the Union City Centennial, Rossburg and Ansonia Halloween Celebrations. The other important group of musicians in the instrumental music depart- ment is the high school orchestra, of which 40 people are members. Playing for class plays and school events held in the auditorium with the exception of basketball games are the chief functions of this musical body. Mrs. Esther Heiby has held the position of music director for three years- and has actively and capably assisted in all musical projects during that time. 33 mm-1-lr'-17002-Dwi wnvmr-7:-3-I 'x YK., Orchestra gifwdg QX Junior Band 35 Girls' Chorus Boys' Chorus 36 Future Homemakers of America President - Marilyn Whittington, Vice-President - Susan Gutermuth, Secre- tary - Charlotte Oliver, Treasurer - Carolyn Wentworth, Reporter - Phyllis Marshall, Historian - Gayle Whittington, Parliamentarian - Alice Mclildowney Recreational Leader - Maxine Slyder, Adviser - Mrs. Alice Kuester. The costu.mes which are comparable to the time add much to the production gf the play. The plot is centered around Ellen Smith and the Pierce family for whom Ellen continually slaves and works. Since the death of her sister, Ellen has had the responsibility of caring for her sistei-'s family, who is a thoughtless self-'centered tribe. Finally, Ellen rebels and decides that she has a life of her own to live. What happens when a "tomboy" discovers that this is a "woman's wor1d" ? john Abbott had three daughters, although he had always wished for a son. As a result, he is determined to make his youngest "jackie", as much of a son as Mother nature will allow. There is never a dull moment: for while "jackie" prepares to win the amateur women's golf championship of the state, Mrs. Abbott is intent on the double wedding of her other two daughters. In the end, jackie has a change of heart and realizes that she could never be a tomboy all her life.
