As I was hurrying to the airport to catch my plane to go home for the holidays, I met Norma Detling. Norma is now appearing in the show, nWe're On Our Toes,u as the star ballet dancer. The plane that we took was one of Glen W1tter's. He is owner of the 'Around the World Terminal for Alrplanesn. Our plane was piloted by Bob Burke, the ace flyer of Glen's Jets. Bob told us that Charlotte Waggoner is Glen's private secretary. Soon we arrived in Ansonia, which is now one of the largest cities in the United States. After our long Journey we were quite hungry so we stopped in at a tearoom. It was one of the most elegant tearooms I have ever seen. We found that Pauline Davenport and Jeanette Hammaker are the owners of lt. They told us that Jean Strait was entertaining the book club that afternoon and they thought it would be very nice if we would attend. We told them we would be quite delighted to do so. I'm afraid the book club never did come to order that afternoon. So many of our old classmates were there that it was more of a class reunion than anything else. Janet Hughes, who is the wife of General Howdishell had just flown back from England for the holidays. Pat Thomas, who is supervisor of nurses at Miami Valley, and her assistant, Bernadine Lachat, are taking their vacations this week. Alice McKibben arrived in time for the meeting too. She is teaching home economics at Miami University Mrs Robert Walls the former Ruby Walters, told us that she and Pete have a lovely home in Pasedena, California Gene Manning, who is famous all over the United States for his architectural englneerin lives just across the street from them Marjorie Wentworth is an office executive for one of the law firms in New York City Bessie Jo Amato tells us that she ls singing with Don Walter's Band Of course we all knew that Don has the uBand of the Year' And last but not least Joan White says that she has a nice little studio in Dayton Next month she is going abroad for some more study We all knew that Joan would make a fine artist After it was all over, we decided that that had been one of the nicest book clubs we had ever attended On the way home we stopped at Bill Taylor's uSuper Marketu He said he had seen Bob Harter and Wayne Slyder that afternoon Bob is teaching agriculture at Ohio State Wayne runs an experimental farm near the campus As we stepped outside the bulldng we heard a motorcycle Looking around we saw Charlie Hoggatt and Ralph Mayo Charlie is the world's champion motorcycle racer and Ralph is his mechanic On our way home we stopped in to see Jim Barga and Jim Dunwoody and to see their big dairy farm Just He has one OI the largest farms Soon the holidays were over and stop in Chicago for a couple of across the road from them is Carl Fischer in Ohio we were on our way home We decided to days When we were ready to leave our hotel we called a cab from uJohn Cab Servicen Ne were surprised to fin that John Waggener is the owner of the company when we arrived at the depot another surprise was in store for us We met Jim Sink He was just leaving for Florida with Chicago Cubs for spring training He is their prize pitcher Soon we were home and back to our jobs again When I think of all that that 'Class of b9u is doing, it seems to me that they have been really quite successful SIISILIBSINHQSUISXIIIIDRSIAMQY J.. me amneal 1.4. das.. 1 I .asl.fa,..lz ale t1 , 5, . . , Q . Our f1rst game was played at Arcanum and with little batting and fielding practice. The Tigers were beaten by a score of 8-M. For this game Harshbarger'was the master allowing Ansonla only 2 hits. Our second game was played under the lights at home with Franklin. Ansonia with a little more experience, won by a score of 6-0 with Terry allowing 5 hits and striking out ll while Sink allowed but 2 hits and struck out lu. Our third game was also a night game and this time with Jackson. Ansonla came out on top with an 8-M favor. Then came Union City for an afternoon game. Union City was probably the toughest team the Tigers faced this fall. The Tigers managed to edge the Union City team by a 2-l favor, with Sink allowing but one hit while McCarter lost a heartbreaker with but 2 hits. Our fifth game was Uthe game of the seasonu with Hollensburg. Everyone from Ansonla turned out for this breath-taker. The game expecting to be a pitchers Hdueln turned out very unexpectedly with the Ansonia usluggersn getting 6 hits and winning the game by a 6-3 margin. In this game, Houpt made the best stop of the season. We played Monroe next, with our second defeat of the season. Cross won with a five hit ball game, while Sink gave up seven hits. Our last game was with Palestine and what a game this was. Jett started the game off for Palestine and did very well, considering that it was his first year of pitching. With the game progressing very rapidly in Anson1a's favor, coach Hopkins sent in his prospects for next year. Amspaugh pitched the remaining game and made a good showing. lhowever getting back to the game Ansonia came out from under a hitting barrage of 13 hits and giving the Tigers a 23-7 score over Pa1est1ne's team. The line-up for this year was as followsg Bob Walls at first, Charley Keaser at second, Gene Manning at short, Houpt on third, Jerry Harris in left field, Jack Amspaugh in center field, Don Walters in right field, George Lee at home plate catching, and Jim Sink doing most of the pitching. Our team was tied for second place with Union City. We hope that next spring proves as prosperous as our fall season was. -v-Lqv, it-v-fx--v-vvwsf,-v-1,3-va.--v-1 , ----..--.av-.-.V-pw. --4, W- . ----w -v-,-- .-q--w-v-v-1- ----- - 3-vm-wrk A1-5-,A-.ff-jq ,X ,J 2 's t 5 TH 1 ,fu in HAH fcrmutidn for LH N'GTba?l v2n9s. 1 iQ'l!Fy lofi tO iight: Harem Bovtlwman, Jean Tedder, Carmen 0'COHHGP, Jorma Dvtllnq, Pat f'i1fU'C"Cfl.1'1F?T'COZ'1 , ,-av' A ,...,J ,. ,MMT '55 3.4.
