In January of 1962, nine eager kindergarteners greeted Mrs. Florence Huntzinger in their first adventure of formal education. They were: Roger Blakeman, Wendy Powers, Deb Diefenbough, Pat Hempstead, Terry Satchell, Loyd Olson, Pat Clay, Marvin Schweitzer, and Jerry Moninger. In the first grade, Mrs. Huntzinger again took over the task of teaching. We lost Wendy Powers, and were joined by Kathy Kelley and Margaret Mathieson. 1963 brought a new teacher, Maureen Bindewald, and a new student, Rod Burnett, to the second grad- ers. We lost Kathy Kelley and Pat Hempstead went to Anselmo. In 1964, several country students come to town, to be taught and guided by the third grade teacher, Mrs. Wilma Switzer. Greg Coleman, Larry Coleman, Marilyn Cantrell, and Karen Wood came in from the country. Bill Keller also joined us and Danny Spanel came from Anselmo. Later in the year, Joy Doggett and Mary and Linda Forshay, who were not with us long, came in, making a total of eighteen students. In the fourth grade, with Mrs. Ruby Christensen, we gained three new pupils. Ellen Fagan came from Anselmo and Marvin Ritchie and Marijean Florian arrived later in the year. We lost Margaret Mathieson and Terry Satchell. Mrs. Eva Mae Kieborz guided the fifth graders through the school. New students were: Linda Turnip- seed and Bruce Rush from Anselmo. Margaret Mathieson rejoined us this year and left later, and Mike Trew also joined the class this year. We lost Marijean Florian and Marvin Schweitzer. There was one new sixth grader, Joe Wrede, who left before the year was over. Rod Burnett left us. Mrs. Alvina Lauer taught the class. Off to a new life. Alice Christen, Shirley Axtell, Ronnie Miller, Jim Thiel, and Shirley Kieborz started their school years guided by Miss Tompson. Patty Holley joined us later that same year to make a class of six in Anselmo. In Anselmo, Peg Schmidt and Pat Hempstead joined the second grade to total eight, with Miss Tomp- son as our teacher again. 1964 found Country schools coming to town in Anselmo, also. Joining us that year were Jerry Sher- man, Ellen Fagan, Bonnie McCandless, Danny Spanel, Barbara Greenough, Joi Clang, Kathy Anderson, Patrice Simons, Linda Turnipseed, Tom Christen, Carla Crouch, Rick McCaslin, and Pamela Fred to make an increase to twenty-one. Mrs. Vernon Souders was our teacher. In Anselmo, the fourth graders lost Jim Thiel, Danny Spanel, Ellen Fagan, Pamela Fred, and Bar- bara Greenough, but gained Jerry Hardy and Bruce Rush, to make a class of eighteen. Mrs. Lela Daily guided us through that year. In the fifth grade in Anselmo, Rick McCaslin, Bruce Ruch and Linda Turnipseed left, but we gained Cindy Gilligan. Miss Dewey was the teacher of seventeen eager students. Bringing our class in Anselmo to an even twenty in 1967 as sixth graders was Rick McCaslin. Mrs. Sterner was our teacher that year. In the seventh grade, the Anselmo and Merna schools joined together in Merna. Mrs. Mamie Erick- son instructed the thirty-three students. 1969 found us entering the eighth grade under the guidance of Mrs. Lucielle Smets. New students were Terrie Goodner and Shari Jacobsen, who left before the year was over. Our freshman year brought us three new students: Debbie Russell, Jack Cram, and Carolyn Fisher. We lost Marvin Ritchie, leaving a class of thirty-six students. Mr. Cestaro was our class sponsor. In our sophomore year we lost Jack Cram and Roger Blakeman. Our sponsor was Mr. Ekberg. As juniors, we lost Carolyn Fisher and Shirley Keiborz and gained Jim Spurlock. Our class presented the play Ready Made Family and later sponsored the banquet and prom having th$ theme Pieces of April. Miss Johnson was our sponsor. As mighty seniors in the fall of 1973, we gained Rod Burnett and lost Jim Spurlock. An exchange student, Elia Maria Mejia, came to join the class in November from Managua, Nicaragua. We presented the play Boarding House Reach. The orchid was chosen as the class flower, royal purple and silver for the class colors, and Just passing through for our class motto. April 24 brought our sneak trip to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Shada and Mr. and Mrs. Adams sponsored us. As we graduate from A. M. H. S. we say good-bye and good luck to all our friends and schoolmates. 20
