The Class of '31 Through the Looking Glass
The class had gathered in the old assembly hall for their last time together.
They sat, glancing over the familiar surroundings, thinking over the four
eventful years that had sped by, and reminiscing. No one spoke: all were
busy with dreams and memories. And no one noticed the golden dust that
filtered through the window on the last slant of the sun's rays that May after-
noon. Heads nodded and soon all fell asleep on the desks that had seen them
through their first stretch of their life journey.
Suddenly they awoke with a start, to nnd themselves in a long narrow
ball-room with an enormous mirror at one end. In front of it danced a tiny
girl with long yellow curls whom everyone recognized as Alice of Wonderland.
"Come," said tiny Alice, taking Gerald by the hand, "follow us through
the looking glass into the land of the future. For one short hour you may
meet yourselves of 1941 I" They all skipped through to the most surprising
adventure of their lives.
Lo, and behold. in the land beyond the mirror:--
Cierald Mullaney, world known scientist, was demonstrating a sub-aquatic
vehicle which was to explore the sea bottom in quest of sunken treasure. The
pilots were Carl Johnson and Harvey Osberg-fViking blood!D
And Ruth Armstrong had a little office all her own. She was private
secretary to the President of the U. S. A., Lawrence Youngquist CUnemployed
Sailors' Alliancej.
Kathryn Tarbox was wrapping a dainty package in her lingerie shop on
Fifth Avenue in New York.
Arthur Patterson was in France, teaching Fencing in a fashionable girls'
school.
Katherine Ward was married to a wealthy Scotch laird. Bonnie Kate was
wintering in Miami so she could live in her bathing suit feb and save rent.
Elsmore Delong sat wrapped in figures. He was trying to estimate the
number of herring inhabiting the waters near Norway in 1940.
Harry Hoffman and Blanche Johnson were touring Europe with the
World Symphony Orchestra.
Lillian Marsh had given to English IV classes, the fruit of seven years
toil. It was a translation of Webster's Standard Unabridged Dictionary into
Chaucer for English IV poets.
Alice Nelson was superintendent of Minneapolis kindergartens.

-'ii THE ANOKAN
Everett Russell was captain of a whaling vessel and never a mutiny arose
among his jolly tars.
Riginette Marander was in Stockholm, lecturing to the women's clubs
on how to raise children like they do in Minnesota.
Norma McArdle was matron of an Orphan Home.
Lois Dougherty was cashier in the private bank of Al Capone.
Lora Lee Chase was seated at a desk piled with papers. A visor covered
her eyes while she wrote with a pencil in each hand. A few more stuck out at
handy angles from her hair. Have you guessed? Of course, she was the editor
of the New York Times.
Gertrude McNelly owned a chain of little yellow and blue stores. They
resembled doll houses and a quaint sign hung outside each shop-"GERTA'S
DUTCH SWEETMEATS."
A tall, well built man with pearl buttoned spats was throwing dimes to
children along the street. His stride was strangely familiar and we recognized
Chester Watson, the richest broker in the country.
Dorothy Madigan was holding the hand of Arthur Wennerlund. He had
hurt himself in the World Series Baseball game and Dorothy, being a nurse, was
taking his pulse.
i Margaret Sam sat in a weird corner of the "Cavern", and gazing deep
into Edward Coleman's eyes and back into the teacup, she foretold Eddie's
success as Flo Ziegfeld's rival in business.
Carolyn Ciundlach was at the head of the Minnesota Board of Movie
Critics.
Q -John Keillor was manager of the Osseo Model Farm which included a
miniature golf course, roller coaster, and swimming pool for his hired men.
Mona McFee was vice-president of the "Scotch Women's Non-Shrinkage
League." Recently she had discovered a chemical, which, when boiled with
spinach. prevents its diminishing to nearly nothing.
Floyd Peterson was a 4-H Club dentist. Many miraculous things had he
done to relieve the toothaches of Horses, Hens, Hogs, and Holsteins.
Anne DeLong had opened a cooking school in China to teach the natives
how to serve rice in different ways.
Lucy Ruffcorn was teaching school in Hoboken, New Jersey. In her
class room were children of seventeen nationalities, none of whom spoke English.
Mason Flint was in Spain. He was trying to set the record for heart-
breaking. CThat is, to have a sweetheart in every country. Just then our
Romeo was trying to evade a large Senorita who had quite fallen for the roman-
tic idea. ' ,

Dorothy Thompson, adored star of the silver screen, was resting from her
latest box-office hit, "Blondie"
Gordon Blesi was doing some of his fancy skating stunts to entertain the
men and women at the A'Who's Who" convention at Lake Placid. New York.
Among those present were Secretary of Radio Ca new office in the President's
cabinetj, Philip DeJarlais: Evelyn Peterson, Commissioner of Education: and
Edwin Bryan, Ambassador to Switzerland.
In the spacious gymnasium of Wellesley College, Evelyn Grunquist was
coaching the girls' basketball team.
John Spence had all the criminals quivering in their shoes at his shrewd-
ness as a detective,
Paul O'Conner and Leone Sullivan were bringing down the house in a
Broadway theatre with their comedy hit.
Mildred Johnson was high on a house top, doing a shingling job. Evi-
dently she was a carpentress.
Marion Farrier was in a gold fish hatchery, trying to charm the fish into
singing by the music of her saxophone.
Edna Laws was in Louisiana determining how many particles of. salt flow-
ed into the ocean from the Mississippi in 4 seconds.
Dolores Grosslein had retired on her vast wealth, secured when she un-
earthed a chest of precious stones while digging for clams in Massachusetts.
Evelyn Swartout and Geraldine Petrie were successfully operating a sou-
venir shop in Anoka, and many were the eccentric Europeans who bought tokens
to place in their collections from famous spots in the world.
Hazen Wilcox had made millions in the Autoplane business. These tiny
planes were a great help to congested air traffic.
Dan Felix was uproariously filling the place of the late Will Rogers.
The World's Free-Style Swimming Championship .was held by Blanche
Howell.
Judson Roberts was in the Hawaiian Islands, designing grass skirts.
Alvin Zeigler was champion pole-sitter, having sat on the North Pole for
53 hours 18 minutes.
Marian Rogers, the happy bride of a political cartoonist, was making
doughnuts and singing.
Marian's song was brought to an abrupt stop by the clang of a bell. "The
hour is up," cried Alice.
We woke up, dazed, The four o'clock bell was ringing. Strange to say,
we had all dreamed the same dream. We yawned, sighed, smiled hopefully,
and filed out of the assembly.

THE 'ANOKAN
Class History
Pioneers are we: yes, just as true pioneers as those adventurous forefathers
of ours who dared the storm-tossed Atlantic: who pitted their strength against
cold, hunger. and disease: who valiantly struggled across the vast plains-seelv
ing new worlds to conquer.
We are the sons and daughters of the pioneers of the middle west. Through
the four years of high school we have worked and toiled with what have seemed
to us mighty problems: but these have been but foot-hills to the mountains that
lie beyond. As Freshmen, the mountains were merely a line on the horizon.
What they were, we did not know, but the pioneer spirit within us bade us
"Westward Ho!"
Through the second year, we saw them a little more distinctly in the
distance, and our third year found us ready to climb the last hill that leads to
that towering peak whose summit lies covered with clouds, and beyond, the
golden fields of the harvest. At last we have scaled the hills--now we must
be trail-blazers. Noi longer will our paths be laid out by fathers, mothers, and
teachers. Alone we must climb. We must push on for new worlds to conquer,
for we, too are pioneers.

Memories of a Junior
1928-29. I started in High School with lofty expectations of a grand
vacation and a valiant future. The great assembly hall over-awed me. I was
astounded at the crowd. I wasn't stung by the traditional coat hook gag,
but never had a permanent one, always being pushed around from place to place.
We had a class meeting and elected officers. Miss Strom showed us the
narrow beaten path of our predecessors. I remember her particularly because
of her insistency on collecting back dues at the end of the year. After the
freshness wore off, things settled into a rut and little of consequence happened.
"X" continued to be the unknown quantity in Algebra and as far as I was
concerned it remained undiscovered. Silas lVlarner's hoard worked up my
imagination on what I could have done with the pot of gold or what I could
do as treasurer for John D. or Henry Ford. General Science was interesting
but it did not touch on the problems that then confronted me, such as why
an alarm clock persists in ringing an hour early or not at all. It was fully ex-
plained how buildings are heated but no method was introduced by which one
could push a button to start the fire on a cold morning. When thinking of
these matters, I conclude that Socrates and Galileo were not such head-liners
after all.
On March 4, 1929, we were entertained by a radio broadcast of the in-
augural exercises in Washington. Mr. Hoover and others made speeches with
the customary utter disregard for those of us who would rather have heard
more pieces by the Marine Band.
Our class won the Silver Loving Cup for the sale of basketball season
tickets, but the Eighteenth Amendment prohibited us from filling it with the
sap of life that our ancestors sold to the Indians. Such was our unhappy
existence.
1929-30. Once more we had to vibrate our grey matter, but still no pull
with our superiors. More mind lifters of subjects. Biology taught the sani-
tary method of licking a postage stamp. and the process of dissection of a
certain old frog convinced me that my future work would not be that of
taxidermist. Ivanhoe brought little relief. Julius Caesar would have been
keen if there had been a mystery and a detective. The Idylls of the King was
T4-wenty-six
--'El THE ANOKANFW-
another unwanted bequest. Miss Schmidt told us that Geometry would make
us think, but it proved to me that I was not endowed with that enviable
power.
This term also marked some improvements in the old "workhouse"
Lockers were brought into existence. As we had locker mates. much needed
information could be gained without having to make a forced entrance through
diplomatic arbitration which did not always prove successful. The library
was moved from downstairs to one end of the assembly room. This did not
meet with my approval as the frequent excursions out past the drinking foun-
tain ceased. The starting of the new addition brought more variation. School
Hnally closed with the usual parting tears. ,
1930-31. Once more I presented myself for intellectual instruction.
The old thrill of my freshman year came back. We had a new building. It
was the pride of our hearts. Classes started. While the routine seemed new I
enjoyed myself but it soon came to be exasperatingly tedious. The thought
of only one more year spurred me on. The longer school hours hampered my
rest periods. as I usually slept best in the morning. General Activities periods
brought enjoyment but the old locomotive at pep-fests lacked the required
steam.
We gave the seniors a banquet which was a good feed if I do say it my-
self. Unemployment or something must have whetted their appetites for they
certainly were voracious.
School closed with 'AHappy Days Are Here Again."

Junior Party
On Friday evening, December 5, the Juniors met at the high school.
They journeyed to the Green Theatre where an exciting wild west picture was
in store for them. After the show, dancing was enjoyed at the high school.
When Miss Dalton announced "eats", dancing was completely forgotten.
Cocoa, cake. and ice cream quickly disappeared. After a few more dances,
Sweet Home" bade them good-night.

a Freshman History
On September, l930. the good ship, Freshman, set sail with ninety-seven
sailors and officers. bound for the port of graduation. She is a well manned
vessel with cannonades of Latin, English. General Science. Ancient History,
Algebra. Junior Business and Manual Training. Her crew know their business
and hope for a safe journey with many prizes and few separations.
She is well ollicered. The captain is James Farrier, the first mate. James
Roddy, the second mate, Billy Matheny. the third mate is Ruth Weaver, and
the quartermaster is Betty Adams.
The crew have enjoyed one celebration so far. It was a great success
and more are planned.
The ship Freshman was thoroughly overhauled during Christmas vaca-
tion. No bad lumber was apparent: the bottom was as sound as when it first
embarked. The masts and the deck were firm. The guns were sti-ll in first
class condition, and the crew were eager to be once more on their way to the
next port, the Sophomore.

Freshman Party
On January 30. 1931. the freshman class staged a party. Numerous
games comprised the evenings entertainment. Refreshments consisting of hot

Football
Anoka's "Thundering Herd" led by Captain Pat O'Connor stampeded
to Princeton for their first conference game. It was a see-saw battle with Flint,
Betlach, Miller, and l-lollom struggling for a touchdown. Finally Jimmie, on
a long pass from Mace, went over for the only score of the game and our first
triumph. The following Friday the "Herd" met Mound in a gory combat.
The Anoka gridders were out to revenge themselves. lt was a rather even
struggle until in the second quarter when Jimmie got a pass from Mace' and
ran for a score. Louie made the extra point good. Anoka's line fought grimly
to hold their lead. But in the third quarter, Mound blocked a kick and re-
covered behind our goal for six points. 'NVe won, however, 7 to 6. The
"Redmen" from Milaca came whooping down here to take Anoka's scalps.
The Anoka team, seeing a district championship in sight, was determined to
annihilate them too. The melee started and our boys were quick to grab the
advantage. Matheny scored on two passes from Mace to start the slaughter:
Mace then added one himself and Jimmie followed with an intercepted pass to
score another touchdown. Milaca was held scoreless and the game ended Anoka

26 to Milaca 0. Our fellows next took on Monticello, who was rated as a
strong team, but turned out to be a disappointment. Every member of the
squad had a chance to play and we came out on top of the lopsided score 42-O.
Cambridge, who had beaten us for a couple of years straight, was confident of
another victory, but the tables turned and we won 19-O. Louie, with his
spectacular running and stiff-arming, gained many yards. Jim, Don, Ev, and
Mace also showed neat runs. Felix and O'Connor, linemen, starred also. With
five victories, no defeats, and the "Herd's" fighting spirit on edge, they tore
to Elk River to take on our arch-rivals. The first half, Anoka had several
chances to push over a touchdown, but seemed to lack something which kept
them from doing so. The line was playing superb ball. John Spence, who
was a tower of strength in every struggle, was playing his best game. The
half ended 0-O. Then, that never-to-be-forgotten second half. Louie and
Roberts had a neat little punting duel and then came the extirpation. The line
charged in perfect unison, during the rest of the game, Louie put over three
touchdowns. Long smashing runs by Hollom, Flint, and Miller were great
to see and paved a way for Louie's scores. The game ended as fiercely as it
started and the score was Anoka 20, Elk River 0. Our fellows had the cham-
pionship cinched and Osseo was a weak team, but they kept fighting to the last
minute. Felix, our rangy end, snared two long passes and proved himself an
able track candidate by outdistancing all pursuers. O'Connor, our captain and
end, also caught two beautiful passes and scored twice. Jimmy collected a
couple of touchdowns and Miller and Betlach got one apiece. The game
ended 49-0.
Five of our fellows were placed on the all-district team: Pat O'Connor
at end: Dan Felix at tackle: Louie Betlach, fullback: Jim Hollom, quarterback:
and Johnny Spence at center. Johnny also received honorable mention on the
all-region team. We were one of the twelve Minnesota high school teams to
be undefeated for the 1930 football season.

Vklith the new gym, four lettermen, two reserves, and approximately fifty
other fellows out for basketball. the pre-season prospects seemed great. Soon.
however, the roster was cut to fifteen. The squad. with well-plannedplays,
about three weeks stiff training and strict coaching, met Elk River. Elk River
won 11-9. lt was a close game throughout. Anoka was leading at the half
but relinquished its lead in the fourth quarter. Coach Mason used two teams
in effort to find a good combination.
The next game was played at lV1i1aca where the experienced Nlilaca team
whipped Anoka, who was without the services of Captain Hollom. The hnal
score was 25-11.
Then to Cambridge. The Anoka team showed improvement. but they
didn't seem to "get going." Anoka missed enough free throws to win the
game, but it ended 22-15 in favor of Cambridge.
Princeton-the 1930 District Champions--defeated Anoka by the over-
whelming score of 25-5. The Anoka defense cracked and P'rinceton's shifty
players raced through to make many set-up shots.
Then Anoka went to Cambridge. This was a close game with many
free throws missed. Cambridge won 22-15. Next, Anoka went to Columbia
Heights as sure losers, but the tables turned and before Columbia Heights knew
it, they were behind. Anoka's defense clicked and their offensive drives brought
them in close to Columbia Heights basket. Anoka led 23-22 with two seconds
to play. Then, a Heights player shot one from the side and in it went. Anoka
lost 24-23.
Elk River fell to Anoka's powerful attack in the next encounter with the
score 21-15. Wennerlund and O'Connor starred. They sank three goals in
quick succession and gave a lead which Anoka retained throughout the game.
Milaca then met Anoka on the local floor. Anoka started fast and piled
up a four point lead. With a few seconds left to play, E. Olson sank two
sensational shots for Milaca. Sanford also shot one and the game ended 22-21.
Cambridge came to Anoka and again a close game was played. Anoka
lost, however, 16-14. Next came Columbia Heights. They defeated Anoka
27-15. Princeton's smooth passing, fast-breaking fellows downed Anoka again
with the score of 25-10.
Anoka's last game of the season was with Braham. This made the

The nineteenth district tournament was held in the Anoka high audi-

Milaca, Cambridge, Mora, Wahkon, Onamia and Anoka.
Milaca won the district championship by defeating Mora in the final
game 31 to 19.
Mr. Carlson, official scorer, presented the trophies. Captain Trimble of
Milaca received the district trophy from Mr. Carlson amid tremendous ovation.
The first eight men comprising the lifist team were F. Arnold, forward

Soccer '30-'31
This year, girls from all classes displayed an unusual interest in soccer.
On September 29, sixty-two much-enthused girls gported for the nrst practice.
A few dropped out, and at the end of the season. the remaining fifty-four took
an active part in the tournament.
Maybe you would hesitate before calling a few of the Junior and Senior
girls the "weaker sex" if you had witnessed any of the following games staged
by said girls following a few of the soccer practices. More than one female bit
the dust as she was thrown for a six-yard loss. The signals were especially
worthy of notice.
After eleven practices, a soccer tournament was held. Results were as
follows:
Games Won Lost Tied
Seniors . . . ,..... 3 0 0
Juniors .... . . . l 2 0
Sophomores . . . . . l 2 O
Frosh .,.. . . . l 2 0
Basketball '30-'31
A great deal of enthusiasm was centered on girls' basketball this year.
Throughout the entire season, the practices were well attended, and as a result,
students witnessed four good teams in action in the tournament.
The first game, between the Sophomores and Seniors, was good although
one-sided-in favor of the Seniors. The final score was 20-10. The Juniors
scored a 34-8 victory over the Freshman following the above game. In thc
second round. the Freshmen were again defeated, this time by the strong Senior
sextette, who pushed through for a 36-2 victory. The Juniors were again vic-
torious, defeating the Sophomores by a score of 25-9. In the finals. which of
course proved the most interesting, the Sophomores edged out the Freshmen
39-12 to win third place. The championship game was hard fought through-
out, but the Juniors were unsuccessful in checking the onslaught of the Senior

will be played also.
All Girls? Picnic
The Annual All-Girls' Picnic, sponsored by the G. A. A. was held Tues-
day, September 30. About forty girls turned out. After hiking to Brownie's
the weiners and apples roasted over a huge Ere were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Baseball, songs and individual antics provided entertainment.
Council Week-end
The G. A. A. Council spent April 24 and 25 at DeLong's cottage on
Round Lake. Entertainment consisted of eating, improvising movies, card
games, dancing to Lora Lee's playing, and sleeping four in a bed. "Middle

"It Happened in June"
Wheelf The Senior Class Play-the Hrst to be given in the new high
school auditoriumf! Weather conditions were with the Seniors, even if it was
winter, and the play was a real success, under the splendid direction of Miss
Irene Miller.
The plot centers around Betty Branson, pretty owner of Shady Grove
Store, played by Dorothy Thompson. Paul O'Connor played the part of
Charles Atkins, the son of a wealthy chain store owner who, as a hero, saved
Betty and her friend from ruin. Of course every person has a friend, and in this
case, Katherine Ward, as Susie Crundel, was Betty's friend. Arthur Wenner-
lund played the part of a pesky insurance salesman, under the assumed name of
Randy Stewart. All life has some funny side and here we introduce the Bran-
son cook, Lora Lee Chase, as Molly Jessop, whose chief weapon was a pan of
dishwater. Mollie Jessop was the sugar in Jim Prichett's coffee, CDanna Felixl ,
who was the town roustabout. CWe hand it to you, Dan, you sure can make
people laugh.D Nell, the sister of Susie Crundel, was played by Kathryn
Tarbox. She won many compliments for her splendid acting. Ruth Arm-
strong played the part of Evalina Scroggs, the homeliest girl in the village.
fRuth, your dresses were surely be-au-tiful.D Jarvis Sneed, the meanest man
in town, was most splendidly acted by Chester Watson.
The success of the play was largely due to our coach, Miss Irene Miller.
Recognition is also due to Marian Farrier and Gertrude McNelly, business man-
agers: Anne DeLong and Delores Grosslein, property managers: and last but
not least-Gerald Mullaney, Hazen Wilcox, and Philip DeJarleis, stage com-
mittee.

Lambda Sigma
The Literary Society has again been organized this year, under the leader-
ship of Miss Miller, and the membership is large-about sixty.
The presidents of the society serve a three months term, giving more people
a chance in that capacity. Oflicers for this year are:
Presidents .... . .Frances Jolly, Arthur Wennerlund,
and Donald Swanson
Vice President . . ...,.,. Ruth Herbold
Secretary ,.... . .Marjorie Welshinger '-
Treasurer ..,,.,...,.,.... ...,,... A nne DeLong "
Last year the society was called just 'Literary Society", but this year the
name "Lambda Sigma" has been chosen. The symbol of the owl was selected
last year. We consider this one of the best accomplishments.
Another accomplishment worthy of mention is the Lambda Sigma pin.
This pins is a tiny silver owl inscribed with the Greek letters L S meaning
Lambda Sigma, and each one is proud to be an owner of it, as well as to be
a member of the Lambda Sigma Society.

,X af' Debate
If "Aq all This year our team, Donald Swanson, Alice Schmoldt and Elwood McGee,
'Qwith the aid of their coach, Miss Ovegaard, captured the cake without the frost-
ing. But after all, the frostirfg has little food value and serves only as an
appetizer.
They debated with three schools-St. Louis Park with a decision of 3-1
in their favor. Chaska High School with a decision of 2-l in their favor, and
last with Excelsior High School with a decision of 3-O in Excelsior's favor.
Debate offers fine practice and a sure cure for those who wish to over-
come stage fright weaknesses. This sport also develops clear and quick think-
ing and offers an opportunity for those who do not care for athletic games.
We feel that our team has had a very successful year and although they
have not been victorious they have learned true sportsmanship and created a
spirit of friendliness between Anoka High and other schools. Much of their
accomplishment is due to the splendid work of Miss Ovegaard.
Declamation
Anoka High was well represented this year in the field of declamation.
We are very proud of our "declamers" and also extend our thanks to Miss E.
Swanson for her splendid help toward our success.
In the sub-district contest, held February ll, in the Elk River High
School, we won two first places and one second: James Roddy received first
place on his selection "The Prisoner at the Bar," Dick Hall in the humorous
division with "Mr. Mishowsky and Der Younk Leddy" also received first place.
and last but not least, Ruth Herbold in the dramatic division with "Davy
Jones' Locker" received second place.
On February 25, the district declamation contest was held at Braham.
Our contestants here, James Roddy and Dick Hall, received second places.
There was keen competition between the schools this year and we feel
very proud and happy over the outcome of our "declamers."

Home Room
Everyone likes things that are different and this year our home room
system is one of the different things accomplished in our high school.
Each Monday is devoted to study: Tuesday is parliamentary law day:
Wednesday, singing in the auditorium: Thursday is left open for meetings:
Friday is pep-fest day.
The different rooms have officers and it has proven to be a real success.
May the success continue through next year.
A "Home Room Convention" formed of one member from each home
room meets regularly to discuss h 1
sc oo problems. It is hoped that this will
develop into a student council.

Glee Club Party
Now that the operetta was over and the members of the glee clubs had a
chance to breathe again, they decided to have a party. The members of the
orchestra who furnished the accompaniment for the operetta were also invited.
It was on the chilly evening of March thirteenth when all the children
gathered at the High School gymnasium. What sweet children some of them
seemed to be, and how they romped around the gym. Gerald Mullaney, with
his little cork gun made certain that there were no undesirable characters lurk-
ing around. Hazen Wilcox announced the games for the evening's entertain-
ment. When it drew near the children's bedtime, lunch. consisting of cup cakes
and ice cream, was served. Before long, weary heads began to nod and soon
all were plodding homeward after a very enjoyable evening.

Father and Son Banquet
As a climax to the football season, an appropriate banquet was held in the
gymnasium on Thursday evening, November 6, 1930. The following ap-
petizing menu was served by the mothers of the players:
Chicken Pie Mashed Potatoes
Rolls
Fruit Salad
Pickles Cranberries
Cake - Ice Cream
Coffee
Mr. Adams, our superintendent, acted as toastmaster. The boys in-
troduced their fathers and adopted fathers for the evening. Mr. Heinemann
extended a welcome to the fathers and guests. Among other speakers were:
Mr. Faber. Jimmie Wennerlund, Mason Flint, Dr. Larson, Mr. Roddy, Mr.
Reed, Captain Pat O'Connor, and Jimmie Hollom. Jimmie was elected as next
year's captain. The following boys received certificates which entitled them to a
letter for their services. They are Bard, Betlach, Bergeron, Davis, Evans, Felix,
Flint, Haroldson, Hollom, Matheny, Miller, O'Connor, Reed, Russell, Spence.
Wennerlund, and Wilcox. Our faithful manager Jimmie Wennerlund will also
receive a letter for his excellent care of the boys. The lettermen were given
gold footballs by Ed. O'Connel in behalf of the Anoka business men. Dr.
Gates and Mr. Smith were then heard from. Mr. Smith stated that he did
not think a better climax to Va football season could be had than a Father-Son
banquet. I'm sure that we all agree with him.
Senior Entertainments
The Seniors decided to have a party! First, to the theatre where they
enjoyed an interesting picture. Back to the school where games were played.
A square dance was performed by Flumpy and Chet. Mason and Norma, Mar-
garet and Art, and Leone and Pat. Soon "eats" were announced and everyone
rushed to the Home Economics room where apple cider, cookies, and carameled
apples awaited them. About twelve stanzas of 'AI-lome, Sweet Home" climaxed
the party.
The seniors are quite sociablel Another party was held December 19.
Dancing and games provided the evenings entertainment. Lunch consisted of
doughnuts, cocoa, and marshmallows. Due to the lack of attention, the cocoa
burned, so Eddie Coleman and Art Patterson hurried to purchase some more.
Everyone left happily, and the mishap was forgotten.

THE ANOKAN
Rooters' Club
Rooters' Club, Loyal Legion of Leather Lungs! lt surely doesn't need
a definition, for the title speaks for itself!
Well anyway, it is again re-organized, only this year it is different. It
is composed of only girls and the girls have surely shown their ability at the
games.
Lora Lee Chase was elected president of the club, Blanche Howell, vice
president.
John Norton, Blanche Howell, Marjorie Wells, and Frances Gordon were
the cheer leaders for this year.
The organization is another great success of our 1930-1931 school year.
All we can say about the "pep seXtette" is: "We can't sing. As singists
we are not a success. We are saddest when we sing. So are those who hear us.
They are even sadder than we are."
