OUR EXECUTIVE OFFICER .
Lieutenant Commander Walter H. Carpenter, United States Navy, Executive Of-
ficer USS ANNAPOLIS QAGMR-15. Lieutenant Commander CARPENTER was
born, in New York, New York, in 1929. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High
School, Bronx, New York, he entered the New York Maritime Academy, Bronx New
York and was commissioned in March 1951 in the Naval Reserve- He Served as Third
Mate, unlimited, aboard SS BRAZIL until JHHC 1952-
In July 1952, he augmented to the regular Navy and was initially assigned to the
USS KNAPP CDD-6535. ' He served as ASW officer and Navigator until July 1954.
In July 1954 he took command of USS WHITEHALL KPCER-856D and served as
Commanding Officer until January 1955.
From January 1955 until January 1957, Lieutenant Commander CARPENTER
was assigned to the Staff of Commander Military Sea Transportation Service, At-
lantic Area. After this two year tour, he was ordered to the Post Graduate School,
Monterey, California, and was graduated in August 1957. From August 1957 until
November 1959, he served as Damage Control Assistant in the USS ST. PAUL QCA-
73 J, homeported in Japan.
In January 1960, he reported to the Staff of Commandant, Fifteenth Naval
District for a two year tour and served in the Naval Military Assistance Program as
Naval Training and Operations Program Coordinator for South America.
In April 1965, after two years as Navigator of USS GUADALCANAL CLPH-
75, he reported to USS ANNAPOLIS KAGMR-lj as her Executive Officer.
Lieutenant Commander CARPENTER's decorations and medals include National
Defense, Navy Occupation, Korean Service,United Nations Medal, Armed Forces Ex-
peditionary Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal, he also is authorized to wear the
Command at Sea Insignia. Q
He is married to the former Marianne Jardine of Port Chester, New York and
has one son and two daughters.
