The Wolves drew first blood on a pass play and a successful try for the ex- tra point. lust before half-time Al Burke threw to Vince Hughes, playing for injured Dan Brownsberger, and set up a Iewett to Scholl TD. Doug Iewett scored the winning touch- down on a 54 yard run in the fourth quarter. Carrying the offensive load was Iewett and Eukeng Robert Matthews and Lenny Theulen turned in their usual fine job on defense. The following week, Anita spoiled Avoca's homecoming festivities by downing the Blue- birds 26-13. The action happened fast with Doug Iewett going the distance on the first play of the game. Also leading the offensive attack were Sophomores Bill Shultz and Vince Hughes. Loren Scholl, Robert Matthews, and Lenny Theulen were outstanding on defense. This victory was Anita's fourth and gave the Spartans a record of 4 wins against 2 losses. The Adair game proved to be a heartbreaker with the Spartans winding up on the short end of a 7-6 score. Adair scored first on a 90 yard gallop by left-half Frank Satch Davis and the try for the point was successful. Doug Iewett countered as he got loose to race 70 yards for a touchdown. A holding penalty foiled Craig Euken's extra point plunge so the final score stood Adair 7, Anita 6. The Spartan eleven ended the season with a record of 4 wins and 3 losses--the best season since 1945. Chosen for the S. W. I. All-Conference team were: quarterback, Doug Iewett, end, Loren Scholl, and guard, Robert Matthews. Vince Hughes, Dan Brownsberger, Craig Euken, Roger Scott, and Lenny Theulen received honorable mention. --Duane Kline ANITA LUMBER COMPANY 21:6 Only Lumber Company In The State Of Iowa That Boosts Anita parlanettes FRONT ROW: Iane Parker, Evelyn Hall, Lynn Robison, Ioan Dorsey, Ieannette Wiemann, Carla Moore, Carolyn Millard, Cheryl Smlther, Carolyn Symonds, Iudy Griffin, Kay Iohnson, Barbara Symonds. After starting slowly, the Spartanettes came on to win 14 consecutive games and finished the season with a 15-10 won-lost record. Highlights of the season came when Anita de- feated a powerful Walnut team 72-69 in a thrilling three minute overtime, and when the Spartanettes toppled Cumberland for the County Championship 56-55 . Lynne Robison cap- tured high scoring honors and Carla Moore was high on rebounds. Seniors Cheryl Smither and Lynne Robison will be missed next year, but watch out for the Spartanettes in '58-'59. --Duane Kline After The Game, Go To ..EuZ.S.. 6 'RIIIIIIQ Dinners - Short Orders ' my CABIN SPORTING GOODS Sandwiches 318 Walnut Atlantic, Iowa pa rlans FRONT ROW Lyle laartz Robert Matthews Loren Scholl Rxchard Lett Doug Iewett Kent Stephenson SECOND ROW Allan Burke Gary Chrxstensen Merlyn Chadwxck Barry Burke Terry Ray Dan Brownsberger THIRD ROW Larry Moore Bud Legg Ierry Heath Jerry Karns Daryl Dfessler Ron Simon Dwa1nP1erce Manager BACK ROW Lenny Theulen Delmar Chrrstensen Bob Dorsey Marlo Ferck Dan Darrow Rrchard Woods B111 Darrow Mr Deskin The lopsided record of 2 wins and 16 losses 1S by no means a measure of the worth of the Spa11an's basketball squad Hampered by lack of helght thelr sp1r1t and des1re to w1n was as evident in the last game as it was in the f1rst whether ahead or behmd Doug Iewett was the top scorer for the Spartans and Loren Scholl was the leadmg re bounder The startmg f1Ve was ably assrsted by the substrtute work of Barry Burke, All Burke, and Lyle Laartz The showmg of the underclassmen promises a better record for next sea son Playing their last for Anita thls year were Semors Doug Iewett Lyle Laartz, and Rlchard Lett Duane Kllne V , QA . u FLETCHER GA BLI-I STORE Phone 269 G' fl'ltf7eBA.
