president! message .
San Angelo College is growing!
Plans for six new buildings are being translated from blueprints to steel, con-
crete, brick and mortar on our campus this year! The plans were two years in the
makingg then a full year of construction is necessary for translating them. They
may sewe for a century or more!
The normal order of things in this is change. All of us either grow or decayg
there is no standing still! San Angelo College is fully as concerned regarding the
blueprints for the lives of our students in 1958-59 as we are for the plans for our
new buildings. Blueprints for each life can be well-laid during your two years
in San Angelo. All of our Faculty and Administration are here to help shape
life-plans, and will watch with great interest through the years to see each person
build soundly and welll May Heaven bless you in your efforts.
Sincerely,
M, .
R. M. Cavness
President

construction . . .
In February of 1958, San Angelo College trustees
announced a loan agreement with the federal govem-
ment for 31,165,000 to be used for campus improve-
ments and expansions.
The money is being used for the construction of a
new womenls dormitory, a new student union building
and cafeteria, faculty apartments and student family
apartments. Carr Hall will be converted into a men's
dormitory as will the present cafeteria. All new build-
ings will be completely air-conditioned.
The construction project will almost double the
campus in size. The project is scheduled to be com-
pleted by September of 1959.
Porter Henderson, president of San Angelo College Board of Trustees,
assists in groundbreaking ceremonies held August ll, 1958. The
ceremony marked the beginning of the building program on the
SAC campus.

construction program to meet needs brought about by a
booming enrollment.
The expansion program, slated to be completed by
September, calls for the construction of a student union
building, faculty and married student apartments, a
women's dormitory, and the conversion of the present
cafeteria and women's dorm into housing for men students.
The buildings will cost more than five times the
amount of the original structure completed in 1928. The
first building, still in use as part of public school housing,
stands on the old SAC campus near downtown San Angelo.
A breakdown of the cost of individual buildings show
that approximately S500,000 will go for the air-conditioned
student union, S300,000 for the new womerfs dorm,
8l50,000 for the faculty-student apartments, 850,000 for
the conversion of men's housing and 360,000 for furnish-
ings for the new buildings.
The student union, showpiece of the project, includes
the cafeteria and will take up over 29,000 square feet.
The new women's dorm, labeled Carr Hall by the board
of trustees, will be located next to the union building. The
air-conditioned structure will house approximately 100
women.
There is more work that goes into a building program
than could be pictured here, but THE BAMBOUILLET
would like to give a vague notion of what actually happens.
The pains-taking iob of selecting material for the new structures must
be accomplished long before the buildings are completed. Mrs. Alleno
Westermon, home economics department head, assisted with this task.

Each year, Glamom' magazine sponsors a con-
test to find Ame1'ica's 10 Best Dressed College
Coeds. In cooperation with the magazine, SAC
held an election to choose an entry. A special
panel nominated 11 young women and the student
body voted on these finalists. Donna Williams,
SAC freshman, was the winner. Photographs of
her were sent to Glamour for the final judging.
Results were announced in the spring and the
winners were pictured in the August issue of the

the official entertainers at the National Junior College
Basketball tournament in Hutchison, Kansas.
Thirty-two members of the Ramettes, accompanied
by Director and Choreographer Ioan Zesch, made the
trip.
First performance of the coeds was on a Wednesday
night. The squad did a skit from "Gunsmoke,' and a
dance, routine to "Salty Dog."
The squad performed twice on Thursday and re-
turned home Friday.

rams go to notional finals after winning omclrillo regional
The San Angelo College basketball team climbed
into the national spotlight again this year but failed to
repeat as National Iunior College basketball champions.
Winner of the Pioneer Conference and the Amarillo
Regional tourney, the Rams turned back Marion Institute
of Alabama in the opening round of the national tourney,
77-76, only to be nosed by rival Cameron State, 83-79.
Cameron State, only repeater to the national finals
from last year, pulled ahead of the Rams 79-77 in the
closing minutes and stayed there until the final buzzer.
Since the tourney is a double-elimination affair, San
Angelo was given a chance for fourth place in the tourna-
ment. This time their opponent was Pratt Iunior College
of Kansas.
After leading at half-time 31-30 the Rams succumbed
by two points, 61-59.
At the regional playoffs Howard County Junior Col-
lege pushed SAC all the way. VVhen the final second
slipped by, the score was tied 82-82. jerry Ray dropped
a free toss after the gun to give SAC the title and a trip
to Kansas.
In the first round at Amarillo the San Angelo quint
drew a bye but in the second round drew Frank Phillips
of Borger. The Barns came out on top in this contest
98-58.
Coach Phil George feels, however, that this team
did much better than anyone had expected. With only
four back from 1958, George found a winning combina-
tion with two veterans and some newcomers, despite
the lack of height.
Another Texas feature in the Kansas tourney was the
San Angelo College Ramettes, girl's precision drill and
dance team, who were the official entertainers at the
meet.

major part of SAC's social life.
The Council also sponsored a sale of cow bells
during the football season, a Council dinner to close
out the first semester and various pep rallies, informal
dances and elections throughout the year.
All organizations at SAC select capable represent-
atives to the Council. Council members must main-
tain a "C" average. g
