In the composing and editing of your 1947 Rambouill
the editors have had only one main purpose-to present a
true portrayal, in pictures and print, of the San Angelo College
campus during the 1946-47 school term.
We now more fully realize the limitations of our talents.
Words are often expressive, pictures even more, but how- can
we express in such a few words and snapshots the true story
of this year with its victories and defeats, and its abundant
laughter and its tears?
Your Rambouillet is an informal book despite the neces-
sary rules and regulations because campus life is also es-
sentially informal. May it always stay this way!

We, the staff of the 1947 Rambouillet, dedicate our yearbook to a dream
that is steadily taking form, to a spirit of co-operation and good will that moves
us on incessantly, and to an opportunity for molding a stronger foundation
for the future collegians of this area-to the new San Angelo College.
It is now like a slab of marble, still unchiseled, presenting abundant and
unlimited possibilities. It is yet to be molded. Into its making will go all the
things that constitute an ideal college where prevails the spirit of fair play.
high ideals, and comradeship.
To the future of our school, and to those who lead it, we dedicate this
annual.

The staff wishes to dedicate this page of the 1947 Rambouillet to the
Faculty of San Angelo College. It is very seldom, indeed, that collegians are
permitted to express to the faculty their deep appreciation for the "always-
ready" consolation and friendly guidance that they have received during
the preceding term.
We who are attending San Angelo College are beginning to realize our
capabilities and heritage. We are also beginning to realize that the time that
we have spent here has been carefully guided and directed by unrenowned,
but great persortages of our time. .
May we always be able to fultill completely the trusts that you have
faithfully placed in our hands.

The essential factor oi any college is the support which it receives from
its trustees. They are the backbone of school spirit and the indispensable force
that keeps the school moving. San Angelo College is blessed with one oi the
most enthusiastic groups in the state. All-are indubitably noble examples of
civic leadership.

I have great difficulty in writing a "message" to the students. You are a fine group of
people, but you are a heterogeneous lot with interests, aptitudes and attitudes as different
as a man from a monkey. My hope is that all of you, regardless of any peculiar character-
istics. have profited by your experiences at San Angelo College. Under somewhat crowded
conditions, we have made an honest effort to help you, and, with few exceptions, we have
succeeded where we had your co-operation.
Some of you will continue in our college-a new physical plant will be available-next
year: others will not. Whatever you do, we want you to know that you cannot escape our
interest in you. In a measure, you are the products of our labor. We shall bask in the glory
of your success, and we shall share in disappointments if you should fail.
Of course, you are not much interested in our participation in your welfare. Most of you
are interested in "getting ahead" in life. That is a wholesome attitude if you do not lose
your sense of values. You should keep in mind that "getting ahead" in these days must
place upon you tremendous responsibilities and obligations
main free and unencumbered by dictatorship or socialism
how to live in a democracy. Then, we must so live that the
tion will not crumble and bury us in the ruins.
I am not a pessimist, but any fairly close observer of the
If our life in America is to re-
or communism, we must learn
walls of our trembling civiliza-
attitudes and actions of many
people with respect to their knowledge of and recognized obligations in a free society is
likely to be amazed at the progress we have made. Surely, "it is one of the wonders of this
world that Democracy continues to live and function." Much of the progress, however, has
been due to natural causes Csome of which have disappearedj and not to personal con-
tributions.
Any amount of college training places you in a select minority group. To an increasing
extent. the college trained men and women must assume the leadership in this country. It
is their privilege- your privilege-to contribute to the betterment of society and thereby
lead mankind away from the bitter consequences of greed, lust, and false pride and pre-
judice. You may do your part by meeting squarely and intelligently this most important
challenge to the younger generation.

P. E. SMITH HAROLD F. BRIGHT
n
Dean P. E. Smith has been an executive officer of the San Angelo College
for the past three years. He is never too busy to offer his sympathetic assist-
ance to students who seek his aid. Many have been greatly encouraged and
influenced by his friendly efforts. '
Mr. Harold F. Bright is one of the most important administrative officials
in San Angelo College. As Director of Guidance, he is the counselor for
students' educational vocations and social objectives. He gives the necessary
tests to help define the possible limits of ability in the various fields of human
knowledge.
Mr. Bright, as Registrar, keeps all records, confirms all admission qual-
ifications, and checks all grade records for transfers.

SAC Chorus has always been one of the most popular organizations
on the campus because of the many public appearances made before school
groups, service clubs, and other civic groups.
Highlight of the Chorus' activities is the annual spring tour to surrounding
towns of West Texas.
Membership is open to all SAC students and credits are offered toward

The SAC Octet was first organized in September of this year with two
main purposes in mind-to furnish short programs for civic clubs and ban-
quets where a chorus would be too large and to specialize in popular songs.
They have presented several special programs for service clubs and over
the radio. They have also made a trip to Sonora.
Members are selected by audition only.

SAC put out its first yearbook in 1941. In putting it out, the staff hoped to give the stu-
dents of San Angelo College a "lingering link" with their Alma Mater.
To say that it was easy putting out this 1947 Hambouillet would be a rank prevarication.
lust like all other businesses, putting out an annual has its snags, its problems, and its times
when the editors and staff members were ready to pull out their hair, scream, and bolt the
doors for good!
The staff raises its tear-stained but proud faces and gives you your 1947 Rambouillet.
Don't tell us about the bountiful mistakes you have found. We already know that there
are pictures that were left out, and others in that should have been left out. You may even
run across a name or two that are misspelled.
Anyway, we've had a wonderful time composing your yearbook, and we sincerely hope
that in the years to come you'1l have just as good a time thumbing through it.

Open to all students who are interested in dramatics, the SAC Little Theatre was organ-
ized in 1946 by a group of students desiring to promote interest in the production of dramatics.
Under the direction of Mr. W. L. Ardis, it sponsors all theatrical activities of the college.
There were three short plays presented by this department. Set in the death row of a
penitentiary, "Afraid of the Dark," a serious drama, was presented in assembly November 20.
A short sketch entitled "If Men Played Cards as Women Do," was presented October 15 in
assembly. Directed and produced entirely by students, "At the Inn." was the assembly pro-
gram December 2O. Gilbert Sanders directed the play and the stage settings.
Major productions were "The Hasty Heart" presented February 13-14 in the SAC audi-
torium and "The Man Who Came to Dinner" presented April 24-25. Proceeds of the latter
went towards the development ot the new college auditorium.
