ANDREWS 56 - HOBBS 0 Although a two-inch rain covered the field just before game-time, the Mustangs slushed out a muddy 56-O victory over their outclassed New Mexico neighbors. Rain or mud, as evident, seemed to slow no Hosses down, and a whole host of Andrews players went over the goal line. ANDREWS 12 - LEVELLAND 20 Levelland's Lobos squeezed by Andrews for a 20-T2 victory October lO before a Mustang Homecoming crowd of 5,000 people. The Lobos scored quickly after taking the opening kick, cashed in on a fumble, and later scored again in the second half. R. E. Merritt scored both touchdowns for Andrews. fi-ui-, R. 'fs -Q. 2 N 1' ANDREWS I2 - SEMINOLE 8 Opening their 1959 season September ll, the Mustangs scalped long-time rival Seminole 12-8 in hard struggle by both teams. Loyd Carruth and Douglas Jeffreys each provided six points in the closely played tilt. ANDREWS 8 - SNYDER 37 Powerful Snyder Tigers growled loud and fast and then ran past Andrews to the tune of 37-8. Capitalizing on the Mustangs' mistakes, Snyder made the most of each opportunity. Colorado City scored first and held the lead until the second quarter, when the Mustangs picked up lo points. Again, several AHS players hit the scoring column. ANDREWS 34 - KERMIT I4 After a tense, scoreless first quarter Andrews caught fire to down archfrival Kermit in the dis! trict opener. ln the second' quarter, Loyd Car- ruth, Ted Nelson, and Basil Greaves each added six pointersg however, in the third stanza, Kermit bounced back with two quick tallies.
