Pictured above is the GRADUATING CLASS of 1954.
The senior class of 1953-54 is proud to have been the small part of this great
year in Andrews High School- lt has been a very prosperous year for everyone
in more ways than one, We have finally succeeded in tinishing the high school
step of lite, but none of the seniors want it said that this senior class stopped
there. Some of us seniors will further our educations, some will marry, some
will enter the business world, and others know not what they will do. We believe
that each of the seniors will reach the climax of their happiness in the future
years and we hope they will be a help to someone in reaching their goal. This
class has been a loyal class and some clay there is a hope to meet again along
life's way. This school year is gone but the years ahead will tell the real tale of
their high school years together. It will not only tell of their high school days, but
ot days long before high school. We believe that this will be one of the happiest
tales that will ever be told of a class graduating from A.H.S.

Pictured above is the Andrews High School Band, During the past year, Andrews has
added many Trophies to its already bulging showcases. For the fifth consecutive year
Andrews came through with a sweepstakes at regional contest. They made the highest
ratings ever obtained by an Andrews High School Band. A great number of solos and
ensembles, plus the Prescott system, helped the band win its fifth sweepstakes.
Besides attending the outaof-town football games, the band made a trip to Lubbock to
take part in the annual South Plains Fair and in October they made a three day trip to
Dallas to participate with twenty other bands in the Texas State Fair.

The Andrews High School Band performed several outstanding shows at football half-
times during the T953 season.
The theme of the first show was "88 Shopping Days Till Christmas" complete with
Santa Claus. Janie Dyer, Gary Ford, Jatuan Merritt, and Janna Way were featured in a
herald trumpet quartet. A referee who penalized the band was made to disappear, and
the story of Columbus was acted out. Drills featuring Texas and Americanism vs. Com-
munism with gigantic formations followed. At the final game, the score at half-time was
formed, after much preparation and an elaborate charting system.
Twirlers for the year were Carolyn Morrison, Pat Allen, and Mickey Sparks who added
much to the appearance of the band.
