During Footballseason the senior Class sells at concessions stands during games. Cokes, candy, popcorn, hot dogs, and in colder weather, hot coffee. Seniors not participating in Band, Pep Squad, or Football carry on the larger part of the work. ' " K Lx. 4 When a strange odor begins to drift through the halls, everyone knows the Seniors are learning to make delicious hot dogsg well after the first time, anyway. Schoolspiritcanbe seen in some pep rallies which include yells by cheerleaders, Jo Faye Alexander, Wilma McGary, Pat'Sparks, and Leona Walters, and talks from coach and the boys. 2? 4. 2' ' H. Q , ,ra,,M VM 'Pb W 1 H ...N- The big event of October occurs during the Hal- lowe'en Carnival when time out is called for the beautiful coronations of the King and Queen of Hallowe'en. With cooler weather the students of A.H. OCTOBER Funny faces, King and Queen A nite so filled with spooks Goblins at the Carnival A ghost that called me "toots". The State Fair at Dallas is attended by a bunch of band kids who have the time of their lives. Besides seeing sights at the fair, the band played in the Cotton Bowl. 'Sf g lnitiation by the Spanish . Club brought lots of laughs besides being colorful with bright cos- l tumes. Initiation lasted two days, to the relief of the pledges. S. leave their cotton skirts and blouses in the back of their closet and slowly begin to don brightly colored sweaters and skirts. High School--Billy Huffstetler and Robert Forbes Junior High ---- Sarah Jackson and W. E. Montgomery Grade School---Kay Hise and Lynn Cummins Primary---Sherry Brown and Ralph Merritt J i K Senior candidate for I-lallowe'en, Billie Huffstetler, reached the position as Queen by a parade. Billie rode through the town on a decorated convertible with escort, Robert For- bes. Other students fol- lowing behind, honking their horns and collect- ing votes on the street as the parade went by. L.et's play bingo, is the cry of all loyal Juniors at the Carnival--Come one--Come all--only 10C --and what beautiful prizes, Nelda's p1'Ofit, Kay Hise and Lynn Cummins, King and Queen of Grade School, sit on their royal thrones with two attendants stand- ing by while the photographer snaps a picture. "Cakes of all kinds and pies of all sorts", yell the non-hungry Seniors. Besides selling for a this kind of work sounds like mother's best vase and Billy Watts got fun. Except for cleaning up. away with Mrs. Floyd's new set of glasses. November bears remembrance Of things that have to pass, Homecoming, Thanksgiving, A football game, the season's last. A The last football game brings the presentation and crowning of Foot- ball Sweetheart, Wilma McGary, Riding in a decorated convertible driven by Carll-lughen, Wilma is escorted and crowned by Pat Wright and Enoch Reid. Homecoming really turns off well when the Student Council get together and work things out. Football boys have black and gold rib- bons with their names on them, which they pin on their special girls. It is an invitation to the Homecoming Dance after the game and the girls wear the ribbons all week. The dance room is decorated like a football field with goal posts and streamers marking off the yardage. 5, d',f'1'A 5 J 13 . G . ,A A . if 25 . , I The Seniors are honored by the Senior Parents Organization with a Christmas party. All kinds of candies are served, and games, enjoyed by all, are played. After an enjoyable program Jo Ann Thomp- son is presented as Band Sweetheart of 1951. She is presented with a bouquet of flowers as the band plays "My Heart Cries For You". FEBRUARY After a series of games the Andrews basketballboys win the Seagraves Tour- nament, They are proud of the trophy and of their team. 495, An all school event, causing excitement in each building, is the Variety Show sponsored by the Spanish Club. Acts were taken from each building, the winners receiving a place on the I..ion's Club Amateur Program. Henry Burton served as Master of Ceremonies and the show was presented to all the school Judges were chosen from faculty and student body. For the benefit of the Seniors the school arranged a vocational guidance course composed of important business men, each making a talk on his profession, as preacher, doctor, dentist, grocer, and others. The Lion's Club Annual Amateur Show is well received with many acts by Andrews students. Winona Blanchard wins first place after singing "Five Foot Two". W di- . N 1 4.1 is .. Solos and ensembles take shape and night rehearsals were scheduled. MARCH March was filled with many eventsg Our trophy case was perfection. Intex-scholastic League, a tournament Our girls won consolation. Evaluation consisted of Sunday clothes and manners. Classes received in- structions to put on their best smile and at least look intelligent. Howdy Week brings friendship books to be autographed by all friends. Don seems to be quite an attraction. Practice begins at the rodeo grounds by students planning to enter the Rodeo. Junior Band goes to contest in Odessa, making a second in concert, second in marching, and third in sight reading. Everett Maxwell, director of the Andrews band, which Won a Sweepstakes award at the contest Joy Sue Stell, First Division in Student conducting. Mary Bates, First Division in twirling Peggy Floyd, who drum majored the band to a First Division rating in marching. The separate tables, candlelit atmosphere, and the rose- decorated entrance gave an impression un- forgettable. The decorations were as those in a beautiful, gay dream. Throughout the meal, the room was filled with Spanish music. Afterwards, the tables were pushed back, and dancing began. In May our year is finished, Our Work is nearly done.
