First Row, Left to Right: Dona ld Boatwright, Dick Little, George St. John, George Grayhill, Dickie Bunting, Charley IVebber, David Brown, David McClung, Buddy Hall Second Row: James Welcher, Clarence Maberry, Ray Caldwell, Melvin Hollandsworth, Carl Bain, Pinky Wilbourne, Jimmy Robertson, Frank Shelor, David Mitchell Third Row: Skeeter Hesmer, Lloyd Hinchee, Marvin Crowe, Bill Thompson, Andy Renick, Brent Lluff- man, Danny Mowles Football With eight lettermen from last year’s squad, five service veterans returning, and a transfer from Kentucky, Coach Spruhan had an able and experienced squad to start the season. Taking full advan¬ tage of this and moulding a single-wing attack around versatile Dickie Bunting, with a veteran-studded line up front, the Wolverines easily swept through early-season competition. Playing perhaps their best game of the season, the team defeated powerful Thomas Jefferson of Richmond 6 to o. Playing hard in every game, the Wolverines made a record to be proud of, winning five games, tying one, and losing three. Boys from this year’s squad who will be lost by graduation are: Backs —Dickie Bunting, Charley Webber, Ray Caldwell, Ray Wilbourne, Andy Renick, Gerald Field, and Danny Mowles. Linemen —Dick Little, David Brown, David McClung, George Graybill and Frank Shelor. These boys will be sorely missed, but we can count on a good fighting team again next year. [ 94 ]
