SI THE PIONEER CHEER LEADERS Jo Ann Foster, Betty Ruth Haupt, Mary Margaret Cornett, Betty Crawford, Minnie Lee Bowman, Dixie Carter , Bobby Caudle, Paul Grubb. Geneva McKinney . Leader (Not Pictured) The Season GIRLS’ PHYSICAL EDUCATION It is the purpose of the girls’ Physical Education Department to develop poise, to set up ideals, attitudes, habits and standards of living which will be beneficial to students as individuals and leaders. In the classes which average eighty girls, and in the after-school sports in which many girls participate, are brought out the lesson of cooperation, develop¬ ment of a sense of leadership, and the lesson of sportsmanship. They are all valua¬ ble traits to carry through life, for they enable individuals to enjoy life within themselves and to enjoy life through virtue of getting along with other people. Let us not forget that a very important fact in physical education is coordina¬ tion of movement and rhythm of activity result in a physically adjusted girl. Physical education is a very great influence on the development of the “whole person.” Jonanne Larson BOYS’ PHYSICAL EDUCATION This year’s Physical Education program is being carried on as well as possible considering the handicap under which we are working. Since we lack the proper equipment for and intensive course in Physical Education, the present program is intended to give both work and play to the students for one hour each day. It is believed that this system assists also in developing coordination and teamwork. Now is the time to make plans for a postwar system which would allow enough room for a thousand students to take gym inside one hour each day, since the problem is a big one and will require a lot of study and work to complete satis¬ factorily. { 70 Coach Spruhan
