Director The Andrew Lewis Choral Club is composed of 60 members, receiving credit for their activities in the Music Department, under the capable leadership of Mrs. Nelle H. Peery. The Choir furnished music for religious assemblies and the Christmas play. In addition to this, a special Thanksgiving pro¬ gram was given. As the Pioneer goes to press the class is working on the operetta, “Bon Voyage,” and has plans for a Sacred Concert. As usual the class will furnish music for graduation exercises. THE PIONEER " he Band L. Christensen . Director Florence Kime Betty Catherine Sowers . Majorettes Mary Frances Parris The Andrew Lewis Band, under the direction of Mr. L. Christensen, has been very active this year. Although school did not open until late September, the band managed to play for some of the football games. It also played for two assembly programs, and in the spring it will give a concert as has been the custom for several years. Any student who is willing to study and is interested in music may become a member. The band is a very imporant part of school life as it brings pleasure and satisfaction to all school activities. Assembly, American Legion, Kiwanis and district and state contests in reading, speaking, and spelling! TRIPS One memorable trip to Asheville, N. C. Occasion: the District Student Congress. Highlights: Barbara Campbell’s hat wandering about at the bus station alone—Joe Ray Burnett and Roland Woodward eating two dozen sandwiches without stopping. (Result—Roland’s appendectomy?)— Mary Frances Parris rescuing Mrs. Strickler’s hat from a gorge knee deep in snow—Grand Finale: Snow and more snow and the train trip home. N. F. L.
