" dzfneaa Training and discipline for physical Htness is the principal aim of the Boys, Health Education Department. The program consists of body- building exercises, individual corrective work and practice in such games as volleyball and softball. Swimming and hygiene instruction are part of the physical training course. Intramural competitions motivate the boys to gain facility in sports and to try out for varsity teams. Health education teachers coach the baseball, basketball, swimming. golf and tennis teams. Mr. lklalter Ross is the supervisor of the Lighting and Amplineation Squad, which sets up microphones and over- sees stage lighting for assembly programs. The Future Nurses Club, guided by Mrs. Anna Johnson, invites speakers from the Nurses Association and visits hos- pitals to gain career information. These future nurses assist the school in giving the patch test. Nlembers who give out- standing service are awarded pins by the Nurses Association. Neuromuscular skills and attitudes of sportsmanship are inculcated by the Girls' Health Education Department through the teaching of calisthenics, rhythmics, dancing and games. IHT classes are con- ducted for the correction of individual handicaps. The hygiene course, offering classes in personal hygiene, driver educa- tion, Hrst aid and the study of communi- cable diseases, encourages habits of healthful living. As' part of the program to ensure 'ia sound mind in a sound body,'l the Department annually supervises the Heaf Tuberculosis Cpatchj test and the administering of polio inoculations. 26
