' ' s' '- ,' V ' , JACKSON OF AGE On October 3, 1927, Andrew Jackson High School opened its doors to 746 pupils and 31 teachers with every chance for a successful future. Does it seem possible that we now have a stu- dent body consisting of 1,644 pupils and a faculty of 77? Now, with twenty-one years of history and experience behind it, Jackson has at last come of age -why it's grown up! lt has had many disappointments, received many honors, and shown much courage, but this school has finally reached the most important age of life. The noble heritage upon which Andrew Jackson was built has rested upon a solid founda- tion and brought great and lasting fame during the twenty-one years of its existence. From the first Oracle, published in 1928, to this last issue of 1948, we have records and re- minders that Jackson has set a worthy standard by which we triumph in our accomplishments. The Tigers have always showed that famous tiger spirit , and we find that 1927 was a most brilliant year in athletics. For some statistics, we might add that Andrew Jackson had no scoring against it in nine football games, while its total score amounted to 294 points, with Julia Landon defeated 76-O and Robert E. Lee 53-0. The football team has won a sportsmanship trophy as well as other awards, and the most valuable man on the team each year is presented a trophy by the J Club of '27, The National Forensic League has received trophies and won several de- bating contests. The band has been entered in the State Conference. The Industrial Arts Depart- ment has also become well known through its many exhibitions. Andrew Jackson has also pro- duced many very famous people and from the way things look, should continue to do so. Yes, all in all, these last twenty-one years have been very successful and prosperous years, and Andrew Jackson High School has the right to come of age and to look forward to an even brighter future.
