ANDREAN HIGH SCHOOL Gary, Indiana MAGISTER MEUS CHRISTUS” USSATA ’64 His Excellency, Bishop Grutka, presided at the 1963 Baccalaureate Exercises held on June eighth and ninth. 4 His Excellency The Most Reverend Andrew G. Grutka, D.D. Bishop of Gary IN MEMORIAM John F. Kennedy 1917-1963 " He gave that we might give of ourselves, that we might give to one another until there would be no room, no room at all, for the bigotry, the hatred, prejudice and the arrogance which converged in that moment of horror to strike him down. " Mike Mansfield, Sen. D-Mont. This is Andrean: where 1559 teens learn and laugh and look forward to the future, where days blossom into months and months into years of memory fragments: a ball poised on the rim of a basket a crumpled sheet of paper the click of the clock before the bell popcorn and hotdogs flowers and songs and colors the intoxication of hydrogen sulfide oral reports and required books not read the jangling of angles, triangles, and tangents last minute gulpings of notes before exams the anguish of waiting for report cards the blossoms of the final May and June and flowing through them all the fresh, strong breath of the Spirit, flowing from the Host in consecrated fingers, drawing all into the Heart of Christ, our Teacher, 8 PHASES OF STUDENT LIFE Social . . . Varying Activities FACULTY 23 REVEREND ROBERT T. O ' HALLORAN, C.S.B. Assistant Principals Principal REVEREND JOHN A. BURKE, C.S.B. My dear Seniors, The four years that we have walked with you along the road of your life seem so very short now that we are approaching the cross- road where you go on without us and we turn back to accompany another class to the road sign that points to the future. As the day rushes on when you go into an unknown future, we admit a feeling of nostalgia, for during these brief years you have grown very close to us. Still, the feeling is lessened somewhat as we realize that a student never really walks into the future without something of the teacher going with him. In fact, your teachers ' success can be gauged to a great extent by how much of them you take with you. If you are prepared to face the future with dauntless courage, if you carve an enviable niche in the world in which you live, if, when your limit of days is reached, you leave that world a bit better, a bit more Christ -like because we walked four years together, we will be repaid in full. One of the ultimate joys of a teacher is to stand before God on judgment day in the reflected light of his students ' glory. I pray that we shall merit that reward. May God bless you until our roads meet in eternity. Father Burke 25 FATHER JOSEPH ABEND Guidance Religion SISTER M. ALICE English Journalism SISTER M. During the year we were ranked eight by the AP and nine by the UPI. We finished the year ranked nineteenth due to two defeats late in the season. Besides State recognition for the team, certain individual members received hon- ors. Jerry Grecco was named All-State tackle, and to the All-American Prep Team. Tom Bilunas was named to the All-State Junior Team. Jim Hysong cap- tured the city scoring title by racking up 78 points. Our winning season was the result of the combined effort of Coach Dornbos, the team, and the support of the student body.
