John Fitzgerald Kennedy 1917-1963 The Thirty-fifth President of the United States of America He was a man of action and of grace. He brought to the presidency a new excellence, a new idealism. He brought a new youthfulness, a warm informal dignity. And he died a young man, when we were young, as sophomores in this school. He was a man of culture, with appreciation for the fine arts. He was a man of intellectual greatness, and of conviction. He sought peace, but peace without surrender of freedom, and gained the respect of the world. He valued education. And he believed in us, America ' s youth. He believed that we could learn, and grow, and become the leaders of tomorrow. He placed great demands upon us when he said : And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country. He was a man of strength and courage we all may follow.
