VARSITY FOOTBALL FOOTBALL 1963 An inexperienced I Andover High football team finished the season with a record of three wins and five losses. It is a credit to the ability of the seniors, and the rapid development of the sophomores and juniors that the team scored three victories in its last four games. The season was highlighted by victories over New- buryport C13-75 and Amesbury C12-OJ. This year there was only one Little Three contest. We did not play Methuen due to President Kennedy's death. Andover defeated North Andover C26-14D in the traditional Thanksgiving Day rivalry. The offensive team was composed largely of seniors: Ends -- Harry Dustin and Cal Deyermond, Tackles - Roger jackson and co-captain Ed Seero, Guards - Bob Cole and Alan Stocks, the only underclassman in the start- ing offensive line, and Center Jeff Barnes. Charlie Towne, a sophomore, was the starting fullback, Frank Trombly was the quarterback, and sophomore Tom Marjerison also saw much action. Dave Bennett and co- captain jimmy Brent were the two halfbacks. Many boys saw action on the defensive squad. In the defensive line were Ed Seero, Ed Huot, Joe Richards, jeff Barnes, Bruce Howard, Bruce Weaver, Bob Robi- 100 chaud, and Mat Hall. Roger jackson and Charlie Towne excelled as linebackers. Ron Kaczynski, Cal Deyermond, Dave Bennett, jimmy Brent, Tom Katz, Arthur Ricci, and Mike Simpson saw action in the secondary. With the experience gained by the sophomores and juniors this year, the team can look forward to a fine season in 1964. g At the football banquet, Roger Jackson received the award as the Most Valuable Player on the squad. Ed Seero was awarded the Most Outstanding Defensive Performer Award. Jimmy Brent received an award for the Most Outstanding Offensive Performer. Jimmy Booth received the Attitude Award and Harry Dustin received the award for the Most Improved Player. The team missed the services of outstanding letterman Ralph Dockray. It was an exciting, hard fought, and worthwhile season. The team was fortunate to have the services of Bill Cairnie as team manager. Cairnie was an outstanding player last year, and this season he was invaluable in performing his many duties for the squad.
