Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1971 volume:

FOREWORD Education is a very valuable tool. It helps us unfold mysteries and form more meaningful definitions to that which surrounds us. If used in a positive manner it can be useful in all aspects of life. School is an institution where we hopefully gain an education. The extent to which we allow ourselves to be educated often depends on our attitudes. Education helps us find richer values in life. The method in which we learn often affects the values we gain. Hopefully from our high school experiences we will gain insight and have a yearning for wisdom and knowledge. After all high school is only the beginning. Editor AN OUTSTRETCHED HAND Each of us was made by God and some of us grew tall Others stood out in the wind their branches bent and fell. L im f Those of us who walk in light Jk t W j Must help the ones in darkness up, For that’s what life is all about and love is all there is to life. Each of us was made by God beautiful in His mind’s eye. Those of us that turned out sound Should look across our shoulders once And help the weak ones to their feet. It only takes an outstretched hand. We Dedicate This To You. Reach Out For Someone. 2b- Yearbook Staff Advisor: Mr. MacCrea Editor: Robert Ulsh Co-Editor: Lynn Panton Layout: JoanWightman Kathleen Gavin Art: Alejandro Burr Sandra Merrick Finance: Grace Herr Dawn Baker Andrew Gram 4Salutatorian Joan Wightman Valedictorian Lynn PantonHall of Fame Daniel Slade Grace Herr Laurie Collins Andrew Gram Lynn Pan ton Joan Wightman 78Ann Michelle Slade Norma Jean Clark Susan Marie EmeryMary Amalia Burnside Dorthy Wilma Kaple Bonme Rouse Kenip Shirley Darlene GivensRonald Lloyd Godown 13 Laurie Jean Collins Grace Marie HenSteven Robert Phelps Lynn Ellen Panton Diane Elizabeth Carmody Gregory James ShellmanSusan Arlene Stephens Steven Alan Tomm Joan Marie Wightman Alejandro Jaime BurrJames Donald Smith John Warren LangMargie Anita Harvey Patricia Marlene Dibble Marilyn Louise Cornell Kathleen Marie GavinCharles Andrew Gram Randal Don Potter Daniel Richard SladeVictoria Louise Atwell Denise Marie MaplesSandra Kay Pease Rodney Dean Brown Debra Lee NicholsDana John Williams Thomas Lyn Matison Robert John Leonard Kenneth Junior BartowMr. Kessler Principal Mr. Russell Guidance Mrs. Mulconery Secretary Mrs. Kelly Accountant Mrs. Bliss Nurse27 Mr. Mumma H.S. Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 Verses 1-8National Honor Society The Andover chapter of the National Honor Society is an honorary chapter comprised of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. To be chosen a member of the National Honor Society one must “obtain and maintain” an 85 yearly average. Just as a person has more than one side to him, so too must a member of the National Honor Society be required to have outstanding qualities other than scholarship. A National Honor Society member must be outstanding in character, leadership, and citizenship. It always has been and always will be an honor to be chosen as a member of the National Honor Society.Library Council Camera Club 69Hi Herald 70Future Homemakers Of America 7172G.A.A. 73Student Council President—Alejandro Jaime Luis Burr Fernandois Casane; Vice President— Daniel Richard Slade; Secretary—Debra Lee Nichols;Treasurer—Joan Marie Wightman. The Student Council under the leadership of the above executive council has contributed a great deal to Andover. Each year it sponsors dances for the student body, donates money for the purchase of Christmas presents for the needy, help decorate the school at Christmas, and pays the mailing expenses for the Red Cross. This year they helped host the annual Student Council Conference at Alfred University. As a host school, they discussed the issue of the Student Council’s responsibility to the community. This year in an effort to reach the whole student body the Student Council has set up suggestion boxes for the students to enable them to have a part in their own school government. 75 • • • • • •.•.VeV.VeVeVe%V %%LeVeVeVeeeVU%VeVe1 • • • !••••••••• I. ■•••••••••••• ■ ••••••••••• • • • ••••••••••a • • a .••••••••••••• aa • •••••••••••• ■ ••••••••••a .••••••••••a •••••••••••• • ••••••••••a • ••••••••••a • •••■•••••••a • •aaaaaaaaaaa • •aaaaaaaaaaa »••••••••• aaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaa • aaaaaaaaaaa • a • ••••••••a .. • •••• a a • • • ••• ••••••••• • • • • • • • •••••••••••aa • • • • • aa aaaaa t a • •••••••••••aaaaa arm a • a •a jl • • a O l (•••••••••••a'' • • • • ••••• » • • • • a • • • L»aaaa aaaaaa m a • I [•a ■ ■ • laaaa ala [••aaaaaaaaaaa aji [•••••••••••• aaai • ••••••••••••••aaa • (••••••••••a • • • [• ••••••• ••••• • • ••••••••••••» ■ • • ••••••••••••••a • ••••••••••••a • a (•••••••••••••a • ••••«••••■••« • ••••••••••••a • •••••••••••a • ••••••••••••aa • •••••••••••••a • •••••••••••aai • •••••••••••••a • ••••••••aa »••••••••• • ■•••••••••••••aa • •••••••••a • ••••••••••aaa a a • • • a aaa a a • a a aaa a a a a a » a a a a a a a a a a laaaa a • a a. aaa .aaa. iVaVaV VaVaVaV 'iVaVMv a ■ a • a • a • ■ a ■ • a a. a aaaaaaaaaa I ajiaaa • • • • a a • •••••••••••••••« «•••• a a a a a a a a a ••••••••••••••••••••• •« aa aaaaa a a a ' a • •••••••••••••aaa « • •••••••••••aaaaa • •••••••••••••••••••••aaaaaaa • •••••••••••••••••••••••aaaaa • •••••••••••••••••••••aaaa • ••••••••••••••••••••aaaaaaaaaa l•••••••••••••••••••••••••••• •••« • ••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••••• )•••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••• • •••••••••••••••••••••••••aaaaa » • ••••••••••••••••••••••••• • • ••••••••••••••••••••••a --' » ••••• •••••••••••••••.aaaaa' • •••••••••••••••••••• a aa • a •••••••••••••••••••••• ac--- • ••••••••••••••a., .aaaaa ••••••••••••••••••••a--- Soccer Soccer Schedule 1970-71 Date Team We They Sept. 22 Canaseraga 2 1 Sept. 25 Belmont 3 2 Sept. 29 Rushford 5 0 Oct. 2 Richburg 4 0 Oct. 5 Wellsville 3 0 Oct. 6 Houghton 4 0 Oct. 9 Alfred-Almond 3 1 Oct. 14 Friendship 2 3 Oct. 16 Fillmore 0 6 Oct. 20 Angelica 2 1 Oct. 23 Scio 0 1 Oct. 27 Belfast 1 1 Oct. 29 Fillmore 1 3 8-4-1 7879 Swimmers80 V arsity81 Junior VarsityCross Country 82Track Baseball 83Twenty-five years younger but still the man we know today -James Hewitt Kessler came to Andover with the desire to build a strong structured educational and social program. Birthdays, graduations, and weddings! Mr. Kessler has known many, what with two boys, one girl, and many grandchildren. He is not just a “principal”, he’s also a “family man” and his fondest pastime is being part of their family circle. Busy during school hours, busy out of school, Mr. Kessler still finds time to relax and enjoy life. 84Mr. Kessler has given us more than we can begin to repay him. He has not only bettered the school but also the lives of many. Mr. Kessler, all we can say is “Thank 85 You” and our thoughts will be with you in what we hope will be a very happy future.• •Best Wishes to the Class of 71 From the People Who Dare to Care Future Homemakers of America Andover New York Compliments of Fred D.
