Hanna High School
The Science Department of Hanna High
serves every group of students, regardless of
their future plans. Biology is enjoyed by every
student in the tenth grade. Chemistry is an
elective open to juniors and Seniors, and is
primarily for college preparatory students and
future nurses. Physics is a Senior elective for
college preparatory students. Our newest course,
Senior Science, is a general education elective
course. The several courses combine laboratory
work with lectures so that students may apply
the ideas they have studied.

The Language Department of Hanna High consists of a
second-year Latin course and a three-year French course.
Under Miss Elizabeth McCown's instruction, the Latin stu-
dents study, not only the language of ancient Rome, but also
Roman civilization. Recordings are used to improve the stu-
dents' pronunciationg filmstrips, projects. and parallel further
their knowledge of human culture,
The French courses, taught by Mrs. Carl Epting and Mrs.
Gene Metz, stress aural-oral method of learning foreign lan-
guage. The aural-oral method is based upon the natural process
of language learning-hearing hrst, then speaking, then later
reading and writing. To implement the process of hearing and
speaking French extensive use is made of tapes and records
so that the students will be exposed, not only to the teachers
pronunciation, but also to that of native Frenchmen. A different
series of films is presented each year in order to enrich the stu-
dents in French traditions, history, culture, and geography.

United States History, Geography, United
States Government, and Psychology.
World History, open to sophomores, is a
study of the great civilizations of the world.
United States History, usually taken by
Juniors. is a required subject at Hanna High.
United States Government. which is re-
quired of Seniors, is a study of our nation's
administrative system. It may also be classi-

Psychology, the science of human be-
havior, gives us a basic knowledge of how
to achieve a sound, wholesome, mature life.
