T xxx xxrk R .qi TXT . . , X ig In home economics Bennie Sue Bone learns to cook by trial and error. A combination of classroom work and practical experience keeps the commercial and distributive education students busy. Skill, salesmanship, the secretaryis personality-all are goals of this large group. As extra-curricular activities the future secretaries display their abilities by cutting stencils, typing programs, announce- ments, letters and other materials for faculty and fellow stu- dents. Then back into the classroom they go to take 'cseveral hundredii words a minute, to transcribe accurately, and to work toward becoming members of the order of Gregg Artists -never any time to be wasted. Personal typing, a subject for students in other courses than the commercial, is popular among the student body. Typ- ing machines are in use even during lunch hours in an effort to meet the demand. Bookkeeping I and Il are designed so that students may have experience in keeping journals and in working with practice sets containing actual business transactions. Distributive education acquaints students with the field of retailing. Offered to seniors, this program places each stu- dent in an actual work job. After lunch, the store and the office become laboratories where theory can be put into practice. 22
