In the TIDINCS of 1956, we have attempted to
present a replica of our school in word and pic-
ture. From the hy-line of each snapshot to our
own Al
ma Mater, we hope you will feel that this
hook was made for you. Each time you turn the
pages of this annual, may you re-live your school
days as recorded in the TIDINGS of 1956.

These are the boys who publish The Yellow Jackal, Boys' High
newspaper. once a month or whenever they get the money and in-
clination to do so. The Yellow locket is the only high school news-
paper of which copies are given to the students free, and it is prac-
tically the only high school paper with a gossip column. For this,
the staff is unlnercifully persecuted throughout the year.
The most sought after "chore" on the staii is going to Hanna and
Junior High each month to sell the Y. J. Becoming a member of the
elite society who have made this trip is the avowed purpose of each
person on the staff. The business staff members must sell. sell, sell
ads until he drops to get to go to Hanna High. The editorial staff
members must write. write. and write. These two activities of the
Y. J. are the main ones.

Hannasgals Buzz
The eternal deadline! Once a month Hallfmsgals stalls donate
lllood. sweat. headaches. and midnight oil to the eauseg that of
delivering the tattered hut completed lay-out sheets and copy to the
printers.
But all is not work in this organizationg for instance. there are
the trips to Boy si High and McCants, Junior High to sell papers. And
oh those trips!
Through "snooping" around the oflice to dig up scoops and pester-
ing Mr .Sandlin and Miss Nleflown for excuses, the Hrznnasgals staff
managed to put out nine papers. Each one represented the news and
the interesting personalities of Hanna High.
The Hrznnasgrzls play ed hostess to the State Scholastic Press As-
sociation Convention. After finding homes for four hundred dele-
gates. everyone enjoyed the week-end round of meetings, workshops,
and the lianquct and dance.

which you can develop if you are a sincere member of the
Allied Youth Club.
This organization trains young people to abstain from the
use of alcoholic beverages by means of a program of factual
education and alcohol-free recreation. The program is car-

Making its dehut in Anderson at Halma High this
year is the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools.
Nlemhership is strictly for the 'GA-Childrens' who also
have the qualities of leadership. character. and service.
To hecome a memlxer of the society is a secret desire
and goal ol many sophomores upon entering high school.
To have this amhition realized indicates an outstanding
high school record.
At present the cluh is a senior organization. New
mcmliers are chosen at the close of each school year
from the rising senior class. Seniors with a 1-.6 average
are accepted at the end of each term.
The informal meetings are held in the teachers' lounge

ville. For sixty' minutes the Jackets outfought the Greenville
crew. but Lady' Luck took a handg and when the final whistle
sounded. the scoreboard showed that Anderson was on the
short end of a 26 to 12 score.
Our gallant warriors came back strong the next week
against a spirited Rock Hill team. Mr. Pattonis boys were
again on familiar ground and had the situation Linder con'
trol all the way. The llearcats were thoroughly drubbed,
25 to 7.
The Colden Tornado of Parker blew into town the next
week. When it left. it was only a breeze. but had with it a
13 to 0 victory. Again the Jackets had played top-notch
football. but the scoreboard was against them.
Then came homecoming and its elaborate festivities. The
day was superb and so were the Jackets, who ran roughshod
over Spartanburg High by a score of 21 to 6 in a very fine
football game.
The Jackets then traveled to Easley and, without any
trouble at all. gave the Green Wave a 3,1 to U beating. Gall-
ney was next on the road list and the jubilant Jackets put
on a show that has seldom been equaled. It was probably the
masterpiece of the season. The great Jacket line fought with
unmatched fury and the backs hit savagely. The Jackets
came from behind to whip the Gaffney Indians in the last
two minutes of the game by a score of 20 to 141.
Again on the road. the Jackets met Columbia l'ligh's Red
Caps in a very exciting and hard fought game. The 'Colum-
bians were defeated by a score of 1-l to 7.
Mr. llattonis Jackets returned home for their last en-
counter with a mighty Chester team who had been defeated
only by powerful Greenwood. Chester defeated the .Jackets
by a score of 0 to ll in a very close game.
The heroes were numerousg everyone was great in our
book: the coaching was superb and the cheering was stu-
pendous. Four boys received awards at the annual banquet.

Since lmasketlmall is the only interscholastic sport
in which Hanna High participates. all our athletes
waitefl eagerly for the first practice. When the day
arrived. many good players were present to try out
for the team. There were only a few players back
from last year. After a few weeks' practice, our able
coach. "N'lajor." chose the enthusiastic hasketball
team. Only' a few games could be arranged this year
lvecause we are the only Double A school in this
area which has a girls' basketball team. The team
had tough competition hut. with the strong support
of thc stuflent hotly, won some important games.
lnexperience was partly responsible for the loss
of the first few.
As for the games we lost. we only say what the
"lJoclgers" said for so many' years, fgwait 'til next

Dash...Relay...Jump...
A windy, and still somewhat cold. day in late Fehruary found
the i956 track hopefuls in line for their warm-upsfwarm-ups
that would soon het-ome a part of their everyday life. Coach
Patton worked the kinks out of the prospects. and they soon
llCC0llli' ac't'uston1ed to the strenuous workouts. After several
weeks ol hard work. the season began. liven the previously
inexperienced hops found themselves competing with the hest.

Our Yellow Jackets of the Cinder track name out well on the
scoring end in their several intra-school eontvsls. Traek mentor,
Boll Patton, was continuously made proud hy the many at'-
complishments of his hoys. We, the students. are also very
proud of our track teanfs sportsmanlikc conduct as well as
their outstanding play.

Hcome on, Babel" "Come on, Boylii L' iAt's the way to
go, manlw . . . Yellow Jacket teammates urge eavh other
on to that next base, or that record-breaking homerun, or
that triple play, or even that hit. or even that stolen base.
ln their constant chatter and hustle the Yellow Jacket nine
express in a small way the pep they have.
Our team, under the capable leadership of Coach Jack
Miller, showed up very well in the now annual Piedmont
Baseball League playoffs. During this whole season the boys
played their best at all times. They were primarily a senior
team, made up of a few juniors and spohomores. Our boys
pulled many a game out of the fire by coming from behind
to win at the last minute.
More important than wins or losses, our bustling baseball
team always displayed the spirit of sportsmanship truly rop-
resentative of a school that was presented with the State
Sportsmanship Trophy of 1955-1956.

On the pages of the following section, we have utilized the symbols of
our Badge of Honor, A. H. S. Here is a pictorial synopsis of your high
school career, especially featuring Seniors in your crazy, but glorious dash
down the stretch to the finish line - graduation. Here are the scenes in
which you can re-live those most exciting, wonderful, and busy days of
this year.
You will recognize your place in the panorama of "The Loveliest Night
of the Year." Junior-Senior is surely something to be remembered. Also
unforgettable are those tense hours before a test. Each time it was casier,
because we were prepared.
So 1 here you are 1 at work and at play, during your greatest days.
