Both were varsity foot- ball players at Clemson College. Also returning was Backfield Coach Jack Harper. Through the efforts of the coaches the Jackets were taught the fast and tricky Oklahoma Split-T offense. The team practiced twice a day and were soon in fine shape and ready for their first game with Fairforest, A few days before this game Donald Bolt and Bill Fretwell were elected co-captains of the '54-'55 season by their teammates. Friday, September lO, the Jackets journeyed to Fairforest for the first game of the year. There was never any doubt as to the outcome of this game. The Jackets completely outplayed their opponents and easily won the game. The next week a highly favored team from Cam- den Military Academy came to Anderson. After scor- ing one touchdown early in the game, the Jackets held the Camden's mighty team at bay and won the game 6-O for a big upset. HOMECOMING QUEEN Jo Anne Farmer l I icuii V COACH HARPER . . . Some are goody all play ball- These are the traits of the Hanna High Basketball Team. Whether during a practice or during a game, our players really play ball-one dashes across the court, another drib- bles the ball, still another guards, and one even shoots a goal. Occasionally a sub on the sideline gets so excited that she shrieks Guard herl Guard herl or Shootl Shootl In the midst of all this excitement a player must think quickly and decide what she must dog therefore, basketball players learn much from the game. After weeks of hard prac- tice and after a couple of meets were over, the students saw that his job was a big success. The Boys' High team had some fast boys on it this year. The dash men were some of the fastest in the state and dem- onstrated this in the tine way that they won their races. Win or lose, the boys at all times played their very best, and this is proved by the record that was posted at the end of the season. Perhaps softball is one of the most popular outdoor sports for our students because it is an outdoor game and most students enjoy it. lt is a common occurrence to see many players on the athletic field and to hear shrieks and yells ot Catch that balll lt's my turn to bat.
