Rising midstithe golden cornfield
Grandly to the view,
Reaches our dear Alma Mater,
Proudly to the blue.
When the rising hills and valleys
Join the earth and sky,
There our love will center ever
Love that cannot die.
For our love, dear Alrnq,,Mater,
Time can ne'er destroy.
We will ever sing thy praises,
Dear old Anderson High. '

Swell the chorus, ever louder,
Full of cheer and joy.
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater!

Coach Ross, Coach Jenkins, and Coach Holshouser
FO0TBALL
15-5
When the first practice session of the l952 season rolled around,
Coaches Jenkins and Ross faced one of the largest building processes
in the history of the school. Graduation took Anderson's bread'n but-
ter, Don King and Joe lvester. Also gone were "Hands" Walker, Aiken,
Arbery, Carey, and Bates. So a new and green team was on hand that
August l5. The boys were driven hard during twice a day practice drills
with fundamentals in the morning and a scrimmage in the afternoon.
lt was hard work and many dropped out, but those that remained
were ready to carry the colors of Anderson High into battle. The two
workouts a day continued until the opening of school. The first game
of the season was with Conway on September l2, Prior to this game
the squad was assembled to elect by secret ballot co-captains for the
current season. Fullback Billy Bennet and Tackle Sonny King were
chosen as the leaders by the boys.
On the night of September l2, Conway journeyed from their lower
state roost to engage the Jackets in their opening game. The Jackets
scored the first time they received the ball and looked great. However,
they fell into a spell of hard luck and finally wound up with the small
end of an I8-6 count. The next week another lower state visitor, Walter-
boro rolled in for a game at McCants Stadium, The Wildcats scored first
in the opening quarter and led until the very last moments of the
game. The Anderson boys came surging back to knot the score 6-6.
That is just how the game ended in that tie deadlock.
Taking to the road for the next contest, the winless Jackets
journeyed to Waynesville, North Carolina. The Anderson lads were
never in the game, as the powerful Mountaineers scored twice within
the first three minutes and went on to wrap up a 27-O verdict. This
was the worst defeat suffered by Anderson in three years and the
first time in twenty-four games that the Jackets had been held
scoreless.
Back home they came for the game of the year with the Raiders
from Greenville High. This was the annual grudge game with Greenville

Coach Holshouser and Manager
Alex Hyder
As the ball leaves the referee's hand, the two
centers strain to reach and control the tap, Thus the
game begins which sends into action the Boys' High
quintet, The varsity was considerably stronger 'this
year than in any other recent year. Anderson pos-
sessed some of the finest set shot artists ever gathered
on a basketball team. They were off to a flashy start
and played sensational ball throughout the season.
Of course, they had some bad nights but these were
few and far between. With Mr, Holshouser in his sec-
ond year as mentor of the hardwood, the team de-
veloped a very flashy defense and offense.
As graduation took all but four from last year's
team, the outlook was slightly dismal for a winning
season this year, However, six boys came up from
the "B" squad to form a powerful team. The squad
was one which won the approval of all their fans and
the support of the students of the high school.

"BUBBA" ALFORD
The sound of horsehide meeting wood is a charac-
teristic sound in the springtime of the year. Baseball
is a favorite sport of Americans and takes its place
as the national game of our great country.
Anderson High has always fielded a team that
fights, hustles and scraps until the last man is'out.
This year's team was no exception. The boys played
splendid ball and at all times were in there fighting
with all they had. This type of playing, which is always
characteristic of Anderson, makes an interesting
game. The infield was one of the smoothest in many
years, and the outfield was composed of fleet ball-
hawks with plenty of power at the bat. The battery
worked together with a smoothness that is a must
for a team to function properly.
When the end of the season rolled around, the
Jackets had rung up an impressive record. Although
not victorious in all their contests, the members of the
baseball squad can put away their equipment with
these words echoing in their ears-"Well done, boys!"

The tape suddenly appears before your eyes.
You strain every last bit of energy from your legs
in a final effort to cross the finish line victoriously.
The track team this year under the capable leadership
of Coach W. A. Holshouser has posted a record that
they can well be proud of. The dash men were some
of the fastest in the state and demonstrated this in
the fine way that they won their races, The discus,
pole vault, and the javelin were all in good hands.
The student body wishes to congratulate you for your
fine showings and your true sportsmanship in all of
your contests this year. May future years prove even
more prosperous.

IIE YELLOW JACKET
After much fighting, grumbling, and arguing, the monthly edition of
the school newspaper, the Yellow Jacket, is published. A great deal of
time and work is necessary to edit a successful newspaper. The boys that
compose the editorial staff are boys that are interested in the field of
journalism. They are to be commended for their fine work.
Mr. Penn looks to the future.

The assembly line at work.
The business staff of any paper is the core of the
publication, The business staff of the Yellow Jacket
does not receive the attention that is heaped upon the
editorial staff but without them the paper could not
be published. They are the lads that solicit ads to
finance the paper. Their headaches are many and
their praises are few, but the businessmen do a super-
lative job.

Those boys and girls who can pass the audition
test are admitted to the Glee Club. They know then
that they can sing, but their work is just begun, They
must practice after school and at night to be ready
tor their annual concert. Often times they are called
upon tor special numbers to be rendered on programs
of civic clubs and ot churches. They always respond
and present a very delightful program of vocal music.

The Textile Department of Boys' High School
is well equipped to train boys for their profession in
later life. The second and third-year boys study textile
design and take a practical course in weaving. They
have good teachers and will leave Boys' High with a
great knowledge of Textiles.
