She has served not only as a teacher but also as a friend, will- ing at all times to help us solve our daily problems as best she could, and make more pleasant and enjoyable our life at Ander- son College. hHer task has not been easy, but the fine spirit in which she has untiringly worked with us has won for her many loyal friends and much respect among the members of the Class of ' 51. yJviF ' l ' y ' e6ldent 10 ' A health to our future — a " sigh for our past! Joyce Towne is still living in Boston with her beans, 45 dogs, and Angel. Estella Jo Gagalis never left Anderson and can be seen daily push- ing a green baby carriage down the Boulevard, while Connie Eliopoulos, who spent the best years of her life at Anderson College, is running on the Reformation ticket as President of Ander- son College. Artie Mae hHester and her twelve children are sailing in June for Upper Slobovia, where she will join her husband. Tommy, who has been recouperating. Judy Adams is starring in the Broadway production " Why Was I Born, " and Betty Denmark, now a prominent opera star, has been having a feud with Margaret Truman the President ' s daughter. Charlotte HIipp and Kat Woodall are teaching school in Central Siberia, while Nannie Lou Gull- edge is taking a tour of China. Jack Smith is still on relief, but hopes to run for mayor of Ander- son next year. Harrison Tucker and David Roberts have opened a race track in Williamston called " Dps and Downs. " Judy Dozier is reluctantly sell- ing sheets to the Ku Klux Klan and is also the head of a committee which is trying to close up the night spots here in town. Betty Jean Dyar is in Reno again. She just can ' t make up her mind. Joan Thompson and Betty Smith are still wait- ing at Newark, N. J., for the Southerner, while Jody Tilton is having her usual Doar trouble, but keeps herself busy trying to harmonize at Mid- night. Tut Boyd has opened up a medicine fac- tory and is publishing a book on " How to Keep in Shape. " Clara Mai Herrin is singing torch songs at the VFW, while Beth Ferris is waiting on tables. Peggy Padgett (Anderson College ' s private eye) has been elected president of the U. S. Information Bureau. Beth Wilder is now in Paris sketching portraits at sidewalk cafes, and Mary Jane Jeffords, in England working on a case with Scotland Yard. Martha Beeks is still riding buses. Ned McClain is trying to prove that the Philip Morris test is false, while Dan Leach is still rolling his own. Sue Helen Whitfield, V o n c e i I Cribb, and Evalee Hampton are in Africa working with natives. Patsy Cleland has turned to professional basketball. She is star of the " Hit the Floor Hard " team. Beth Kelly is her manager while Mary White is her personal secretary. Jenny Lee Cooper is the new editor of the " Daily Despair, " and Carol Ann Taylor, now a stock-car racer, can be seen practicing on the Clemson highway. Last, but not least, we find Barbara Nugent (Anderson College ' s Bohemian character) living in Greenwich Village. She has sold two paintings and worn out ten pairs of sneaks pacing back and forth to theatrical agencies. All the Sophomores are still wondering who said " The bell done rung or. . . .
