EMCM CHARLES C. DOWNEY colvuvlANn MASTER CHIEF Command Master Chief Charles C. Downey was born on February 23, 1951 in Marked Tree, Arkansas. He joined the Navy in October 1971 and graduated from Electrician's Mate A School at Great Lakes Illinois His subsequent tours of duty include the USS SPERRY QAS-121 in June 1972 where he work as ann Electriciang May 1973 as an Electrician aboard the USS FRESNO QLST-1182lg Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center, Toledo, Ohio February 1978 as an instructor, USS McKee QAS-417 in September 1981 working in the Repair Department, AuglISf 1983 USS BRONSTEI - ' ' ' ' ' ' ' N QFF 10379 as the Electrical Division Officer and Senior Chief of Command, Naval Submarine Base, New London March 1986 as the Assistant Training Officer. Master Chief Downey graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in March 1986 He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of New York in May 1987. ln June 1989 he reported to the USS ANCHORAGE CLSD-367 and assumed the position of Command Master Chief. His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Battle E , Good Conduct Q3 awardSlv Sea Service Q3 awardsl and the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist pin Master Chief Downey is married to the former Cheryl Hassler of Dayton, Ohio. They have two children Beau and Jason. 8
