Anette Weiss comes from West Germany and she lives with the James Pollard family. She thinks having two sisters her age is a great advantage. She goes horseback riding in Germany and thinks that the sports activi- ties here are different. She's on the varsity volleyball team and that keeps her fit. School is okay but she doesn't like the fact that the students can't go outside during their lunch hour and that Anchor Bay does not have a smoking-lounge. She loves to travel and wants to see asmuch ot the USA as she can while she's here. She thinks that being in the program will be one experience she will always cherish. A 142 f Foreign Understudies Archemedes Afonso is from Vahinos, Brazil. He came lor the six month program and stays with the Corricks. ln Brazil, he attended a school of electronics. It required much more work and time. Roller skating, soccer and motor- cycle riding were among his iavorite activities. Archimedes doesn't really go much for snow and the cold weather. He says American food is all from the can and he prefers fresh food. Fish and rice were part of his usual meal. Anchor Bay is a good school. He is enjoying himself and will someday come back. Annie Ong lives with the William Leitch family and is also from the Philippines. She is glad she has a sister her age: Sally, a junior at ABHS. At home, playing the piano, watching TV, and going to mov- ies were part of her leisure activi- ties. She likes Anchor Bay and thinks that the students are friendly. Like the rest, she enjoys the snow but it gets too cold at times. Snack food is synonymous to American food mainly because rice is not served every day. l'm coming back , she says, but only for a visit.
