a Helping Hand to the Active Leaders lor Nwiavviuiaw STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT A most tamiliar figure on campus this year was smiling Joe Nakamura, student body president. Leading the Student Cabinet in all activities and representing Ana- heim High School were Joes main duties this year. He also attended many community efents, PTA board meetings, and student gofernment conferences. Not only was Joe president ot the student body, but he also was a member ot Key Club, Pep Club, Hi-Y, and O. C. Jays. These combined activities contribute to the well-roundedness necessary tor a good leader. Proving his leadership ability, Joe was second place winner in the Anaheim Ellfs Youth Leadership Contest. lm glad l had the privilege ot this ottice, says Joe. 'lt has given me personal experience and an appreciation ot helpiul co-worlfers. l have learned the tunctions oi the school by working with administrators, and l believe l have gained valuable lfnowledge worlfing with others. Starting oft the year, this active group promoted the largest sale ot student body cards in many years at AHS. Another tirst-ot-the-yearactivity was sponsoring the successful dance, the 'Howdy Hoop. Among some ot the better assemblies arranged tor by the Cabinet vvere i'The Mississip- W LYNNE LONIBARD Secretary of Treasury plans, the Fullerton J. C. exchange assembly, Eric Whelan and his color slides ot Mexico, and a special full-length movie, Anastasia. Some of the many every-day duties ot the Cabinet members vvere attending meetings, ar- ranging tor pep assemblies, presiding over respective groups, and corresponding vvith other schools. A tevv ot the big expenditures ot the Cabinet this year vvere table and chairs for the nevv, modern Student Activity room, a cinemascope screen tor the auditorium, and a cinemascope lens tor the movie proiector. Finishing up the year, the Cabinet carried out successful plans tor ci CASC conterence on AHS' campus and tor the outstanding Service Point Banquet. Although this governing group completed many worthwhile activities, their main accom- plishment was learning to vvork together as responsible citizens ot their school community.
