Those of you, who through this book,
remember
The time and hours spent
that long first day of September-
Back in 1950- .
When, into these halls we passed with friends,
companions, and an urge to conquer
histories and labs,
the languages and all the maths.
Those days we thought so vainly spent,
ln hours of homework and discontent
While grudingly on to school we went.
"For what", we'd say,
"Will all this toil and work
And strife give us anything
To take along through life?"
But now,
At the end of this last year,
'Midst these halls we now find dear
What comes?
Further schooling,
Work, or war?
Whichever way, we have a chore
To make a space
in this wide world for freedom,
happiness and peace
Be we doctor, lawyer, or merchant chief.
Whichever path we choose to follow
These past three years will stand
In bold relief,
Engraved upon our minds.
And now we've reached this "Fifty-three"
We say to all-
Our Principals, Advisers, Teachers,
"Let this be our salute-
Within these ivy-covered walls,
Save a space
To set our TOTEM POLE in place."

Miss Alice S. Morgan
the boys of the june
graduating class, Mt. Brown is known
for his genial good nature, considera-
tion and cordiality. With his ready
greeting, informal but deep under-
standing, and sense of humor, he has
made a friend of every Anacostian.
In gratitude for their unfailing help-
fulness. we have placed their names in
the foreground of our yearbook.

-Q.
To two of our advisers who have
helped us select our courses and solve
our problems and who have aided us
in planning for "after graduation" with
suggestions and guidance, we dedicate
this 1953 edition of the Totem Pole.
In addition to her duties as counsel-
lor and instructor, Miss Morgan has
given much attention to extracurricu-
lar activities and has served as a spon-
sor for our after-school interests. She
has always given generously of her
time to bring out ideas to fruition. We
shall not forget her friendly encourage-
ment, and tolerant attitude.
