This years varsity football squad was certainly a
hardworking group and a pleasure to coach. The
year had its high and low points but the athletes
stayed together as a group an begin to show signs
of playing competitive football in the N.W. league.
l honestly believe the program gained needed
respectability within the school and the league
this year. The seniors, although few in numbers,
are to be credited for their dedication and com-
mitment to the program. Their efforts certainly
played a big part in gaining this respectability.
With the number of people returning the future is
bright for Anacortes football and we all look for-
ward to future successes in the program.

Individually, we have about twenty-four
young men ready to play varsity football

Coaches Comments
Our season started off with a big bang. We played our best tennis the first three
weeks. Half way through the season we were plagued with illness. lt was at this
point we played and lost to Sehome. We never quite came back after that. We
felt we should have had them but couldn't pull it out.
As a coach I couldn't ask for a better group of girls to coach. Even in defeat
they held their heads high. Most of our talent will be returning next year and if
determination means anything we're out to double our number of victories.

IVIEN'S VARSITY BASKETBALL
Head Coach Borgen:
Our goal was to go to the state
playoffs and win the district. We
would've liked to have gone fur-
ther and won more games along
the way, but we were aware of
where we wanted to be at the
end of the season and we ac-
complished that.
I have never had a team I've en-
joyed working with more. They
were hard workers who had alot
of pride and were gentlemen on
and off the court. -
l'm grateful to the previous
coaching staff. Loren Anderson
and Ray Frier were very much a
part of what happened this year.
The cheerleading staff did a
great job all year. The fans really
stood by us.
This has been a very rewarding
1 year.

We had a very inexperienced
team led by only two returning
letter winners from last year,
Mary A Pauline. All the girls got a
lot of practice and experience this
year, all can be very -proud of
what they have accomplished in a
short time.

1980
This year's team, was quite young,
with only one senior on varsity. The
team was led by the doubles play of
Scott Anderson and Erik Papritz, and
singles play from Rex Bash and Jeff
Jordan. Bret Lunsford, Steve Taylor,
John Kipp, and Freshman Rich
Papritz also contributed greatly.
Third year coach Dave Starkovich, is
highly respected for his positive in-
fluence and for being a great guy. First man- Erik Papritz
