Mr. Gordon has taught mathematics and the sciences at AHS for many years. Gerald sponsored science clubs, literary rally contestants and served as homeroom teacher on many occasions. Mary Jeter was crown- ed the 1983 Sweetheart by Michelle Contant, the 1982 Sweetheart. Assisting Michelle with the crowning was the Crown Bearer, Master Jamie Morrison and Flower Girl, Miss Jennifer Tilley. The AHS Choir received its most prestigious recognition when it was chosen by the Opryland American Music Services to attend the American Music Festival, held April 27 - May 1 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Choir Members and sponsors enjoyed all aspects of the unprecedented trip. Some of the highlights were QD The Choir performed at the Roy Acuff Theater and was judged 4th in the stiff competition. C25 At- tended the Grand Ole Opry C35 Toured Nashville with visits to the homes of Johnny Cash and Hank Snow. 141 Visited Johnny Cash Museum and the "One piece at a time" car. C55 Stayed at Opryland for one day. Q65 Motel accomodations were in the Fiddlers Inn. The trip to Nashville was a milestone in the progress of our Music Department. The Lady Indians Won the District 10-B Title and advanced to the semi-finals of the Sweet Sixteen Tournament held in Lake Charles. They defeated Mansura, Lacassine, and French Settlement before bowing to East Beauregard in a 36-34 loss. The Boys Team was more successful this year than in the past. The team Won the District 10-B Title and advanced all the way to the Finals of the State Tournament held in the Assembly Center in Baton Rouge. The Indians lost the final game to an outstanding Gibsland-Coleman Team. The second-place trophy looms large in our trophy case. Everyone here at AHS really enjoyed the season and the fine play of our teams.
