Spirit eek Catches isney Magic as 2 1. The football teams show their school pride at our first Pep Assembly. 2. Armondo Belloso ties Maria Rodriguez's shoe on Slave Day. 3. Dawn Cowen buys Troy Roberts on Slave Day. 4. The 8th grade cheerleaders inspire Pirate pride at the Pep Assembly. 16 .aa Lam JHS Pirates brought a toucl of Disney magic to our cam pus by participating in Spirit Week. Monday was Opposite Day and there were many more girls dressed as guys. Tuesday was Slave Day, when girls bought slave guys for 31.00. We raised 158000, which was used for various Student Council projects. Wednesday was Green, Black, and White Day. A lot of students showed their school pride, and the day ended with a great Pep Assembly. Thursday was Beach Bum Day when many stu- dents came to school ready to hit the beach. A sack lunch was served, and we all pinicked out on the football field. Volleyball and frisbee games added to the beach- like atmosphere. The week ended on Friday, the day before Hallow- een, and lots of brave teachers and students wore costumes. 75

1 here were many different kinds of students who attended AJHS, with a variety of educational needs. Some of those needs were met by our superior special education program. One of these programs was ESL, a class in which our foreign students were taught to speak English. Another program which improved a different type of language difficulty was the speechflanguage program. Some oth- er special education programs were Chapter 1, Support, and the Rillito Center. The Rillito Center, an on- campus class where mentally and physically handicapped students ac- quire the education they need, was one of the newest programs. AJHS also had REACH, a class in which students advanced in English and So- cial Studies can challenge their skills through special projects and reports. Special programs like the library's Club 25 helped to round out the de- partment's curriculum. Special eeds - Special Education -if .... F , an 4 4. Walter Kern, Darrell Totten, Andy McKin- ley,and Monica Monge show their affection for Mr. Dean. 5. Mrs. Potts helps students Esther Casillas, Da Hong Pham, Bobby Corona, and Inez Meneses with their special reading work. 3 2. Abel Martinez, Iliana Gonzales, Sharon Cal- loway, and Arin Golden, line up for a picture with their teacher, Miss Hurrle. 3. Mr. Wood helps his class carve pumpkins for Halloween. If 15
