E NGLIQH CLASSES PROMOTED Four years of English is required at Amplii in order to graduate. The Freshmen studied the hasic grammar tech- niques and they made a study of one of Charles Dickens, works, David Copperfield. The Sophomores traced the development of a play from Greek times into the Elizabethan age. Numerous projects were presented to parallel their intensive study of Shake- speare's fulius Caesar. The Sophomores devoted a term to the reading and discussion of the short story. Mrs. Hortence Allen The Junior year was centered around the basic theme of Folklore and the development of the short story in America. In the Senior year, the students continued their study of Shakespeare with Hamlet along with the preparation for college. They also studied English History in relationship with its literature.
