At Christmas the girls went caroling to Comstock Hospital and sent a Christmas basket to a needy falnily. Bake sales were another project of the club. FILIBUSTERS The Speech club known as the Filibusters under the direction of Mrs. Lillian Cooper, sponsored the school oratorical contest which was held on February 18, 1953 and the district oratorical contest on March 5, 1953. Five gold pins in the form of gavels were awarded to the five students who achieved the most in public speaking. Some activities included Christmas caroling and a food basket jointly with Y-Teens, a convention in Phoenix, noontime activities, a movie and the selling of programs at the Rodeo. An important accomplishment for this year was establishing a scholarship to the University of Arizona for some deserving senior student.
